Today, staff from the Pierce County Auditor's Office came to Curtis High School to meet with all senior social studies classes. Curtis is the only high school in Pierce County that brings in knowledgeable staff from the auditor's office to teach students about Washington State voting history, the election process, and gives students the opportunity to register to vote on site. This is an annual tradition for Curtis Seniors and, in accordance with Board policy, E-3 Contributing Citizens.

All UPSD schools will start one hour late this Wednesday, September 9, 2026. Adjusted start times are as follows:

Chambers, Evergreen, Sunset, and University Place Primary Schools will begin at 9:15am
Drum and Narrows View Intermediate Schools will begin at 9:45am
Curtis Junior and Senior High Schools will begin at 8:30am

Buses will run one hour later on normal routes. School dismissal times will not change.

With the exception of October 28th and June 16th, all Wednesdays between now and the end of the school year will follow this late start schedule.

All University Place School District schools will be closed September 4 - September 7, 2026, for Labor Day weekend. The Educational Service Center, located at 3717 Grandview Dr W, will be open on Friday, September 4th from 7:30 am – 4 pm. If you need assistance, call 253-566-5600. Schools will reopen on Tuesday, September 8th.

Last Friday, staff from Chambers Primary School and Sunset Primary School toured recently renovated local elementary schools to get ideas for features they want in their new school buildings. NAC Architects is currently seeking input from staff, families, and community members as they work on designs for the new primary schools. They will attend school events to hear directly from people, and a survey link will be shared with the community next week.
