Seabury School challenges gifted children in a community that cherishes each individual and fosters

Founded in 1989, Seabury is the only independent school in the South Puget Sound with a program specifically designed for intellectually advanced children. Children from Tacoma, Federal Way, Kent, Auburn, Gig Harbor, Puyallup and throughout the South Puget Sound region come to Seabury for its personalized approach to education and emphasis on the development of creative and analytical thinking skills. Seabury is a member of the Pacific Northwest Association of Independent Schools (PNAIS) and the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges (NASC).

Our middle schoolers had a whirlwind end of the week last week YMCA Camp Colman exploring, discovering, and even dissecting. 🌲🛶🦑

From canoeing and beachcombing to Gaga ball, wildlife encounters, and squid dissection, camp gave our students plenty of opportunities to get curious, try something new, and learn well beyond the classroom walls.

But some of the best moments were the ones with laughter, teamwork, shared meals, challenges, and time spent simply being together. Experiences like these are a big part of what makes our Middle School special: learning together, taking risks together, being curious together, and building a community where everyone belongs.

A little science. A little adventure. A lot of fun.

And spinning.

What a way to start the year. Go Banana Slugs!

Seabury 8th Graders present their capstone projects each year, a celebration of hard work and determination and a chance to share their passions with the community. This year our 8th graders shared about the dangers of screen time for teenagers and how to manage, presented the trials and tribulations of building a hovercraft, and educated us on the ins and outs of a new language built for a fantasy world! Truly amazing feats of learning!

Seabury Showcase = kids leading the learning. 💡
It was a joy to welcome so many families to campus and watch students share their work and explain their thinking—penguin “research,” 3D landform islands, salmon life cycles, Seaburia artifacts, and medieval castles (complete with design rationale). Seeing their creativity on display, paired with their confidence in conversation, was the best part.
