Ready to feel more confident handling tough customer interactions? 💬

Working with the public means every day is different. Some conversations are easy, while others can be challenging. This one-day, in-person workshop gives you practical skills to navigate difficult moments with confidence and professionalism.

You'll learn how to:
- Use listening and summarizing so people feel heard and understood.
- Recognize and respond to emotions in ways that diffuse the situation instead of escalating it.
- Find language that helps you stay calm and clear when emotions run high.
- Communicate policies clearly and respectfully, when you have to say “no.”
- Close conversations with a clear “what’s next” so both you and the customer can move forward.

Leave with practical tools you can use immediately and the confidence to handle even the toughest customer situations.

Thank you to everyone who participated in our Summer Basic Mediation Training! Over five days and 40 hours, this dedicated group brough curiosity and thoughtful engagement to every discussion, role-play, and learning opportunity. The commitment each participant showed not only strengthened their own skills but also enriched the experience for everyone in the room. And a special shoutout to each of our coaches, who brought their expertise and energy to the training!

We concluded the week with our Donor Appreciation Event, where volunteer mediators, donors, and BMT participants came together in community. Folding origami peace cranes served as a meaningful reminder of the power of patience, collaboration, and the hope that connects us all.

For some, the Fourth of July is a day of fireworks, food, and celebration.

For others, it can be a reminder of loss, trauma, or histories that still carry pain. And for some, it’s simply a day to seek quiet, away from the noise and crowds.

Whatever this day means to you, we recognize that this holiday can bring a wide range of emotions and experiences.

Today, we honor dignity, dialog, and the connections that grow through respectful conversations. Much like fireworks, conversations can be inspiring and illuminating, or loud, overwhelming, and unpredictable. At CDR, we’re here to help turn those sparks into opportunities for listening, understanding, and transforming conflict into connection.

This Fourth of July, we hope you find the right balance of celebration, rest, and reflection.

Thank you to everyone who joined us Wednesday for our Open House. Together, we transformed an ordinary weeknight into a whimsical, curious Alice in Wonderland-themed gathering. You explored the mad world of conflict with us and we are deeply grateful for every conversation, question and moment of connection you helped create.

The best part about our Open House was the in-person connections – old and new – as people walked through the Center. It is a joy to see mediators, partners, neighbors and new friends talking to one another, asking questions, and imagining new paths through conflict together.

Our mediators, volunteers and staff poured a lot of thought and care into creating an evening that held both joy and hope for our community.

Thank you for joining us on this very important date. If you could not attend – you are always welcome to stop by the Center for a tour or conversation.

We would also love to see you in an upcoming training, like our Tough Conversations online training on June 9, 11 & 16.
