Where childhood is rooted in nature, curiosity, and connection. Located in Tacoma, WA!

Backyard Bears is a Montessori-inspired preschool offering a warm, holistic environment for children ages 2–5 years. Our small class sizes (up to 9 children) ensure each child receives meaningful attention and care.

✨ Class Offerings:
• 2-Day AM: Monday & Tuesday, 8:00–12:00
• 2-Day PM: Monday & Tuesday, 12:30–4:30
• 3-Day AM: Wednesday–Friday, 8:00–12:00

Our program is half outdoor, with 2 hours inside and 2 hours outside each day. Children engage in hands-on learning through our nature-based curriculum, including gardening and caring for our friendly chickens—fostering responsibility, empathy, and wonder.

With a holistic approach to early childhood education, we focus on social-emotional growth, independence, and foundational academics in a nurturing setting where every child can thrive.

We welcome both subsidy and private pay families.
Potty training is not required.

Mud pits, car washes and much much more. Taking turns to splash and crash. Practicing self control not to go toooooo wild! Soups and salads, lots of goods to bake. 😉😊

These kids sure love glue! Practicing portion control, gentle hands, and of course creativity. Seeing how differently and similarly the Bears chose to create their trees is so special.

On the hunt to find cute bugs! They love to gather their friends to search for the small beauties.

Trash vs. recycling! Kiddos got to explore different materials and decide if we can recycle or not. They sure loved the little cans 🤣

Playing hair salon! They set up the studio, showed their inspiration for the style they wanted, and left happier than clams. 😊

Incase you forgot, we LOVE flowers here! It’s so sweet seeing how they choose to create them. Especially love how no two are alike. ❤️
