Just some post-session, very satisfying clean-up! I remember when the glue spilled in here and I went, “Oh heck yeah I get to peel that off later!”
It’s the little things sometimes 😂
Playful Artist Studios
Come to Playful Artist Studios to enjoy an exploratory, possibly messy, and freeing process art experience!
Currently serving ages 16 months-8 years, adult classes soon!
If you’ve worked with me in the last few years, you know I’m a SUCKER for some schematic theory. It really unlocks something when looking to understand and decode play in early childhood! Schematic theory explains how young children use repeating patterns of play—called play schemas—to explore ideas, practice skills, and make sense of their world.
The concept of schemas originates with Jean Piaget (cognitive schemas). The use of play schemas in early childhood ed is commonly attributed to Elinor Goldschmied and Sonia Jackson.
Patterns of play / Evidence of Schemas:
⚽️Trajectory / Transporting (throwing, carrying, dropping)
🌀Rotation (spinning, twisting)
🎁 Enclosing / Enveloping (putting things in, covering, wrapping)
🧱Connecting / Linking (joining, fitting together)
🍡 Positioning / Alignment (placing, lining up)
🧊 Transforming (mixing, changing state)
🫣 Hiding / Seeking (concealing, finding)
🫙 Collecting / Ordering (sorting, arranging, counting)
⛓️💥Separating / Splitting (taking apart, breaking up)
🎪Covering / Obstructing (blocking, piling on top)
Sessions at PAS aren’t “just cute” - they have hours of research, knowledge, and intentionality behind them!
Also, the more sessions you sign up for, the better I know your child and the more personalized the sessions become!
What a beautiful space, filled with beautiful people, doing beautiful things! So thankful to have been a part of this gathering today. Celebrating mommas and making art in a beautiful place- what more could you ask for?
Artists had the option to take a clay disc and use watercolors, beads, dried flowers, and wire to create with. Among the things created were doughnuts, boats, islands, and more created!

Something I love seeing in our studio is the absolute focus that takes over when kids are creating.
Through watching the physical process of them experimenting with materials, we get a peak inside their heads! It’s a bunch of scientific processing going on.
“If I do this, then this will happen.”
“How can I make it look like this? Maybe if I put this here. Maybe if I use that tool.”
“What is that tool for? I’m going to try it out and see.”
All of this builds their growth mindset, critical thinking, and self confidence!
