It was the day the students provided sports massages at the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Tournament in Puyallup. I got to show them how to help with hip pain and posture deviations for a mid-event massage...

"Hi — my son Colton competed at Revolution last weekend and one of your instructors worked on him between brackets after his hip locked up. He said he felt better immediately and was able to go back out and compete in nogi finals that same day. Just wanted to say thank you, that made a real difference for him.

I run his page — he’s 11, gray/black belt under Fabiano Scherner, took 3rd at IBJJF American Nationals this year and heads to the ADCC US Open in Austin next month. We posted about you today.

Day 2 of the Revolution BJJ Tournament at the Showplex in Puyallup.

Today Elite Massage School students joined Elite Massage Professionals in providing massages to athletes, competitors, coaches, parents, grandparents, staff, and other supporters (kids and adults).

We massaged 45 people in total (10 to 20 minute massages) for donations towards the school and the CIA Program.

72% of them (32 of 45) were non-competitors
15% (7 of 45) of the athletes only took advantage of a post (after matches) massage
13% (6 of 45) of the athletes took advantage of of either a PRE (before any matches) or Mid (after Gi and before No-Gi matches).

Of the 13% athletes who received a Pre or Mid Match Massage (83% = 5 out of the 6) took podium.

1 Pre took 2nd place in No-Gi
2 Mid took 1st Place in No-Gi
1 Mid took 2nd Place in No-Gi
1 Mid took 3rd Place in No-Gi
1 Mid took 4th Place in No-Gi

This tells us that we are teaching our students the proper skills, techniques, and timings of when to use Pre, Mid, or Post stretches and techniques correctly.

I am proud of the students on surviving their first 8 hour day of massaging (instead of the usual 4 hour class period).

We also raised $143.62 for the school and $143.63 for the CIA (Compassion in Action) Student Support Fund.
