The University of Washington has selected Maslow's Campus Communities as the development partner for UW Tacoma's student housing and dining development project, marking a significant step in bringing long-awaited amenities to the campus community. ๐ฝ๏ธ๐ ๐
The selection follows a competitive request for qualifications and proposals process that attracted multiple teams interested in partnering with the university on the first major project to move forward under the campus master plan.
Planned as a public-private partnership and scheduled to open in late 2029, the project will add housing for nearly 500 additional students to live on campus and include UW Tacomaโs first traditional dining hall, offering healthy, flexible meal options and a welcoming space for students to gather and connect.

One degree closer to their dreams. ๐
On this campus, we're big fans of our first-generation Tacoma Huskies โ the change makers, go-getters and visionary students first in their families to earn a college degree.
When they make up more than half of our student body, the only option is to hype them up like there's no tomorrow. And last week, we did exactly that. ๐
Together, we celebrated the Class of 2026 in style, honoring the accomplishments of our first-gen graduates with a stole to represent every hurdle, every all nighter and every new experience to navigate without a roadmap.
Between loved ones, family members, advocates and support systems of every kind, it was a packed house for our first-generation grads, and we couldn't be prouder of all they've achieved. ๐

Great to spend time with University of Washington Tacoma Sports Enterprise Management students at the Tacoma Rainiers game. โพ๐
As a founding advisory board member for the program, itโs always meaningful to connect with students and hear their ideas during conversations like this. These kinds of experiences โ learning, connecting, and building relationships outside the classroom โ matter.
This is what strong higher education and workforce pathways look like, and itโs work Iโll continue to support in Olympia.
Through a longtime community partnership, Kent Laboratory Academy (KLA) and UW Tacoma's School of Education have collaborated to advance equity, innovation and excellence in PK-12 education. ๐๐๐
Each year, KLA hosts Tacoma Huskies who are studying to become certified classroom teachers, administrators and school psychologists.
KLA leadership and staff mentor UW Tacoma students to develop the disposition, knowledge and skills required to become transformative educators (with transformative results).
With this partnership at the heart of a small public school setting, KLA provides a personalized learning environment focused on the whole child for students third grade through high school. ๐ซ๐
Cut to today, and more than 20 percent of KLAโs staff have been trained through UW Tacoma, says Principal Stephanie Knipp, Ed.D., who also serves as a clinical experience coordinator for the School of Education.
