Getting into college is a milestone. But for first-generation students, the harder challenge often begins on Day 1. Navigating unwritten academic rules, imposter syndrome, competing family pressures, and a system that wasn't designed with them in mind — these aren't academic problems. They're transition problems. Mindset problems. Belonging problems. And they're solvable — when we're intentional about it.
What does your campus do specifically to support first-generation students beyond financial aid and academic advising?

Student success is not the job of one office, one program, or one VP. It's a campus-wide responsibility. The research is clear: campuses with the highest graduation rates share one common trait — a collaborative spirit and shared accountability for student success that runs across every division. Silo-busting isn't just good culture. It's a proven retention strategy. 💬

What's the biggest barrier to cross-divisional collaboration on student success at your institution?

61% of students say their professors empower them to learn. That means nearly 4 in 10 students don't feel that way. Faculty have enormous influence — not just on grades, but on whether a student decides to stay. Professional development that connects faculty to the human side of teaching isn't a luxury. It's a retention strategy. 💬 What's the most impactful PD experience you've seen change how a faculty member shows up for students?

Here's something the research keeps telling us — most students who leave college aren't failing academically. They're struggling with the mindset and skillset needed for this chapter of life. The question isn't whether your students are capable. It's whether we're equipping them with the tools to believe they are. 💬 What's one mindset shift you wish every first-year student arrived with? Drop your answer below — we'd love to hear from our community.

“If I were advising a college president wondering what to make of this, I’d tell them to pair affordability with strong career-pathway programs and invest in faculty development to reinforce the classroom behaviors that matter most to students.” —Richard Roman, founder of Trusted Arc Labs
What separates programs that get results from those that don't? The research is clear — it's not about doing more, it's about doing what works.
At LAUNCH Student Success, every framework, every curriculum unit, every workshop is grounded in cognitive psychology and social learning theory — and designed for immediate use in your classroom, your advising office, your campus.

“To put it simply, we believe students need someone behind them, something to belong to, and something to look forward to.” - Aaron Basko
Too many campuses have the right intentions but disconnected ex*****on. When strategy becomes systems, and systems drive consistent action — that's when real, measurable student success happens. 🎓
This is what we do at LAUNCH Student Success.
What's ONE system your campus needs to build or strengthen this year? Drop it in the comments.
