The Wawasee High School Robotics Team, aka the Iron Pride, was formed in September of 2013. The Team was formed to advance the STEM skills of students at Wawasee High School in Syracuse Indiana through the use of robotics, and to promote 21st Century careers in STEM related fields. Currently the team competes in the VEX Robotics Challenge and is a part of Wawasee Robotics which extends its program

down to the elementary level with LEGO WeDo. The team currently consists of 45 students grades 9-12, on 10 VRC teams. The short term goals of the team are:
- to compete in the VEX Robotics Challenge
- to host 2 local competitions each season

Long term goals for the team consist of:
- winning the Indiana VRC State Championships - goal met for the 2016/17 school year
- competing in the VRC World Championships - goal met for the 2016/17 school year
- growing the program to encompass 10% of the schools student body
- mentoring middle school students in the VRC - - goal met for the 2016/17 school year with Wawasee Middle School students competing at the State championships
- hosting multiple state and regional competitions - goal met for the 2016/17 school year
- becoming financially self sufficient through hosting competitions and sponsorship

Our end of year awards ceremony will be on the Dixie Sternwheeler, on June 23rd, at 4:30pm. All Iron Pride students, parents and alumni are invited to attend. Please bring snacks to share!

The Robotics World Championships are taking place as we speak. While we did not have any teams qualify this year, we do have something cool to share. Check out the banner in this picture. Our former Wawasee Robotics students are highlighted on this banner that is hanging at the World Championships. It’s great to see our successes being highlighted in this way!

574G and 574J travel to Indianapolis tomorrow to compete in the Indiana VEX Robotics State Championships at Lucas Oil Stadium. Tomorrow is check in, inspection and Skills Runs.
Qualifying rounds for the elimination bracket begin at 10:30am on Saturday. Alliance selection begins at 2:45pm, for 574J in the Middle School Division and 3:45pm for 574G in the High School Division. The elimination bracket follows immediately after.

The students are battling for a chance to compete against 800 teams from over 40 countries at the VEX Robotics World Championships in Dallas, TX in May.

Saturday’s tournament featured Iron Pride’s senior recognition. The Iron Pride takes a real hit next year as they are losing 7 seniors this spring. All four members of 574D are seniors: Connor Byrd, Nathan Smith, Noah Beckner, and Wesley Hays. Two of three members of 574C are graduating: Evan Rassi and Taylor Fiedeke. Vanessa Wright of 574B is also a senior.
