Seventeen students from across Syracuse University and the Department of Sport Management, led by associate professor Jamie Kim and professor John Wolohan, traveled to Asia in May 2026 as part of an 18-day study abroad trip.
Traveling to Seoul, Beijing, and Tokyo, students learned about the local sport ecosystems by visiting the Korean Sport and Olympic Committee, Korean Sport Promotion Foundation, K-league, Chinese Soccer League, Japanese baseball museum, etc.; the globalization strategies of U.S. sport entities by meeting with NFL China, NBA China, MLB Asia, and PGA Tour; and the impact of mega sporting events by visiting the Korean Olympic park, Bird’s nest (host of the 2008 and 2022 Olympics), and Japan national stadium, etc.
There were joint classes with local students from Sungkyunkwan University and Chinese University of Political Science and Law.
Students attended local events such as a Korean Baseball game at Jamsil Stadium, Chinese soccer at Worker’s stadium, Nike high school basketball at Wukesong Arena, and Japanese baseball at Tokyo Dome. Additionally, there were opportunities for cultural immersion (esports, screen golf, DMZ tour, Kungfu, kendo) as well as sightseeing (Korean national palace, Great wall, Forbidden city, Tiananmen square, and Samurai Museum).
The students kept a blog of the trip. Find it online at https://syracusespmasia.blogspot.com/

With the World Cup kicking off this week, a group of Falk College of Sport at Syracuse University students didn't just pick their favorites—they built a predictive model to back it up. ⚽
The Soccer Analytics Club ran thousands of simulations factoring in roster quality, coaching tenure, historical performance and even how teams play in different temperatures. Some takeaways?
🇫🇷 France is the favorite
🇺🇸 The U.S. has an 88.7% chance to advance out of the group stage
