You may notice some new Coyote paw prints welcoming you to the school zone this week!
Over 80 hours of work put in by volunteers on Sunday (including our very own stellar principal, Ms. Ellis), plus significant planning help by traffic pros at City of Syracuse - Office of the Mayor DPW and Syracuse Metropolitan Transportation, and Adapt CNY.
A big thanks to all the Ed Smith parents, Latin / Nottingham / Henninger parents, and community members from all over the city!
The painted curb extensions and flex posts narrow driving lanes to slow driving speeds by design (instead of by enforcement). They also shorten the crossing distance for pedestrians. The kids should recognize the Ed Smith blue and yellow!
The Ed Smith PTO applied for permission to do this project through the city's Community Streets program, which aims to streamline the path from "a dream and a drawing" to getting the permits, professionally designed plans, and supplies to make it a reality.
To be clear, it is a demonstration project and won’t last forever.
If you like it (or if you don't), let DPW know.
