The Central New York Association of Minority Police is partnering with No Dreams Deferred for our annual coat giveaway to help children and teens stay warm this winter.

Date: Saturday, October 3, 2026

Time: 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., while coat supplies last

Location: One Park Place, 300 S. State Street, Syracuse, NY 13202

This is a free family event. Gently used coats and winter essentials will be distributed to children and teens.

We don’t have nearly enough pictures of our FIRST DAY 2026, but please feel free to share yours here in the comments if you’re comfortable doing so! It was a wonderful day full of smiles, new and old faces and friends, and the beginnings of what can be possible if we stand tall together this year! We had some wonderful bus drivers, and some kiddos that arrived in true style with their family members willing to take their ride home for them. 🥰💙💛 Here’s to a wonderful first day and school year ahead!

Today is the day for our Kindergarten-8th graders! (Prek starts tomorrow 9/9/26).

HAPPY FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL! 🚌

We will see you all at 7:20 this morning when doors open!

All drop offs and pickups will be at the side parking lot. Doors are open until 7:40 AM and then all late students must be dropped off in the front of our building and signed in at the main office by a parent. Any early dismissals should happen in the main office before 1:30 PM, as we are then preparing for dismissal. Any families attempting to pick up after 1:30 PM will have to wait until buses are gone to enter the building at 2:00 PM. Dismissal may also take a few extra minutes the first week of school, so please help us make things smooth for all.

We may need a little extra time for our buses to arrive the first few days, so please be patient with our staff as we get all of your babies safely in and out of the building these first few days.

Families, please remember to sign up for Parent Square so we can stay in touch with you, and to call our office if you’re having a hard time logging into the app. We will need to check that your information in SchoolTool matches the number you’re trying to sign in from. 315-435-4490. Our phones will be bumping the first few days, so you can leave a message and someone will get back to you.

Our kindergarten meet and greet was so wonderful today! It was absolutely heart-FILLING to see these babies and meet their amazing families. We look forward to watching them grow, and are so thankful to you all for trusting us with a piece of your heart! Thank you to those that could join us, and if you couldn’t, we look forward to meeting you in the future and telling you exactly how thankful we are for choosing HW Smith for your child’s education! 💙💛

Please join us for our Open House-Curriculum Night on Thursday September 24th from 6-7:30 PM. You will have some great opportunities to meet our staff, visit your children's classrooms, sign up for our health center, and visit tables for our support team, PTO, Peaceful Schools, and our other Community Based Organizations. We can't wait to see you!

PS. Welcome letters will be sent out on behalf of teachers by the end of the week. The district is sending us some school supplies to begin the year, so please hold on reaching out to teachers regarding needed supplies. We will ask them to reach out with any specific information on items needed next week when they are back in our school for professional development. Thanks so much for your patience!
