On Point for College

On Point for College On Point for College is a non-profit college attainment and workforce development program.

Our Mission
We break down barriers that prevent young, underserved individuals from achieving education and career success. Our Story
On Point was founded in 1999 in Syracuse, NY as a nonprofit college access program supporting first-generation students. Early services included help with applications, campus tours, one-on-one advising, and dorm supplies. As students advanced, we expanded to ensure they could thrive in college as well. Our College Success Program provides mentoring, course selection guidance, financial aid support, and on-campus wellness visits, giving students the tools they need to graduate. In 2008, we added Career Services, connecting students with internships, job fairs, and career counseling while helping them prepare resumes, cover letters, and interview skills. On Point has grown beyond Syracuse, opening an Utica office in 2012 and expanding in 2018 to serve six Central New York counties: Cayuga, Herkimer, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, and Oswego. Since 1999, our students have attended more than 300 colleges and post-secondary programs. Thousands have earned degrees, and our alumni include teachers, business owners, first responders, doctors, nurses, nonprofit leaders, and even a Marshall Scholar and Watson Scholar. After more than two decades, one thing has never changed: all of our services remain 100% free to students. We are funded through a mix of grants, sponsorships, and the generosity of individual donors.

Watch Nan Han’s story and see what’s possible when a student has the right support behind them.

Her journey is a powerful reminder that students don’t need someone to dream for them—they need someone in their corner as they work toward those dreams.

During Mohawk Valley Gives, September 14–18, you can help more local students access the guidance, resources, and support they need to keep moving forward.

Onondaga Community College President Dr. Warren Hilton reminded our students that they don’t need to have everything figured out before starting college.

College is a time to discover who you can become, work through moments of doubt, and ask for support when you need it.

Thank you, Dr. Hilton, for encouraging our students to believe in themselves and keep moving forward.

NYS Senator Rachel May reminded our students—especially those who are first in their families to attend college—that they have a strong support system in their corner.

Thank you, Senator May, for encouraging our students to embrace what’s ahead and make the most of the support available to help them thrive and succeed.

We’re proud to be in their corner every step of the way.

At our Pre-College Orientation, Assemblywoman Pamela Hunter - 128th District reminded students that college can feel overwhelming at times—but they don’t have to navigate it alone.

On Point is here to support students every step of the way, from getting to college to reaching the finish line.

Thank you, Assemblywoman Hunter, for encouraging our students as they begin this next chapter.
