The Brazilian Student Association at Syracuse University would like to express its solidarity and support for the fight against racism, violence, oppression, and racial injustice worldwide.

What is happening right now is nothing novel to the communities affected. This is a fight and injustice minority communities have to face every day when going to school, work, stores, and even in their own homes. The violent events that recently happened clearly articulate the problem with our social structure. Whether in Brazil, Minnesota, or in the Syracuse University campus, this behaviour is unacceptable and of the utmost repugnance.

We will not tolerate this behaviour and would like to show our appreciation for all those in the front lines advocating for their rights of living in a just and safe society where they are heard, regardless of skin colour or gender.

To whom it may apply, we will acknowledge our privileges as non-members of the black community and other minority communities, recognize our ignorance towards what it’s like to have your existence and rights threatened every day, and will seek to learn about such injustices in order to fight alongside those affected in the battle for an inclusive, and just society.

The Brazilian Student Association is a global organization composed of a network of Brazilian students studying abroad.

BRASA’s Syracuse group has, as its objective, to cultivate a community of Brazilian students, Graduate and Undergraduate, and offer opportunities for professional and academic development.

In order to facilitate adapting to college life outside of Brazil, BRASA Syracuse has in place a mentorship program for incoming Freshmen. For every new Brazilian student, one mentor will be assigned to guide and help them throughout their first year of university.
