Alexandria Johnson ’24 has been selected to complete an ETA in Belgium and Virginia Walker ’25 has been selected to complete an ETA in Mongolia.

We’re proud to celebrate Ava and Olivia, two International Relations majors named 2024–2025 Remembrance Scholars — Syracuse University’s highest student honor. Each year, 35 students are selected to represent the 35 Syracuse students lost in the 1988 Pan Am Flight 103 tragedy, carrying forward their legacies through scholarship, service, and remembrance.

On April 26th, the International Relations program hosted an Awards Ceremony followed by the Sigma Iota Rho Induction Ceremony. Our outstanding seniors have been recognized with the annual awards and the new members of the honors society were inducted🎓 Congratulations to everyone!

Anna is a first year in Maxwell/A&S majoring in International Relations and Russian Literature, Language and Culture. She is also minoring in Music Performance in VPA. Her major is focused on relations between Eastern European countries and how nationalism, particularly through the use of folk music, motivated the revolutions that led to independence in post-Soviet nations. She is originally from Minnesota. On campus, Anna is an elected member of the executive board for the university’s Ukrainian Club. She is also a member of the Syracuse University Symphony Orchestra and Model United Nations club. She is a member of the Renée Crown Univeristy Honors Program and a Coronat Scholarship recipient. Next fall, she will be studying abroad in Poland with the Syracuse Abroad Exploring Central Europe program.
In her free time, Anna likes to practice violin, crochet, watch Jeopardy re-runs and explore Syracuse with friends.

On November 3rd to 7th, a 15-member Syracuse University Model United Nations Delegation traveled to Washington, DC to participate in theFall 2022 National Model United Nations (NMUN-DC) conference. The head delegates were Ahmed AlQubaisi, Shay Kinney Leonhardt, Daniel Kolodny, and Carlos Ruiz. Thomas Bouril, PhD Candidate in History, accompanied the team and served as interim faculty advisor. The Delegation represented the Russian Federation. Conference sessions began on Friday(11/4) and concluded on Sunday (11/6)🍊

Rebeka is a senior in Maxwell majoring in International Relations and Environmental Sustainability and Policy. Her major is focused on security and diplomacy within the European region, and corporate sustainability and green technology. She lives in Massachusetts but is originally from Budapest, Hungary. Rebeka is a member of The Women's Network on campus and the European Students Association. She is currently spending her fall semester in the Maxwell in D.C. program, interning at APCO Worldwide, a global public relations consulting firm. Following her graduation, she will be joining the state and local advisory team at KPMG. Down the line, she is considering applying to law school. Her dream job would be to be a corporate lawyer upholding sustainable technology solutions. Rebeka participated in the Syracuse Abroad Brussels program in the summer of 2022 with fellow IR classmates. The Brussels program provided a great experience at the heart of the European Union on various global and European issues, and the inner workings of all EU-related institutions. In her free time, she enjoys taking long walks in D.C. and visiting the many museums the city has to offer😍
