This semester students in MUS 601 Museum Prep & Installation have been collaborating with the Erie Canal Museum for a wonderful case study of exhibition design and development in historic spaces: how can museums reinvent a preserved structure without making any permanent change?
Grads participated in the conception, fabrication, and installation of free standing temporary wall structures, window inserts for hangable surfaces, and digital projection as a part of artist-in-residence Sarah Cameron Sunde’s work in ‘Canal as Collaborator.’ The exhibition is a fantastically successful model of how we can create new narratives and experiences within a historic building.
Thanks and congratulations to ECM Director of Interpretation (and MUS alum) Steph Adams for steering such a great exhibition and project!

Print Curators in NYC!
Students in MUS 705 Print Curatorship had the opportunity to visit New York City to participate in print week, including fantastic visits to the Lower East Side Printshop, Print Center New York, Gemini GEL print publishers, an amazing and inspired day at the IFPDA print fair, and even a quick stop at the SUArt Museum’s Palitz Gallery. Special thanks go to Kyung Eun You and Marie Tennyson at the Lower East Side Printshop, Amy Raehse, Executive Director of Goya Contemporary, and our colleagues at Wingate Studios and Tandem Press for taking the time to speak with these talented emerging curators.

During Spring Break, students from Professor ‘s Caribbean Museology course (MUS750) had the amazing opportunity to visit several cultural sites in Puerto Rico to see first-hand the museum and heritage management practices institutions apply to address the challenges of the field within a Caribbean and (post)colonial context. Students also learned how these sites work towards the benefit of the Puerto Rican society through community engagement, educational outreach, and civic and environmental activism.
Talk about resilience and the power of museums!
Thank you .pr for such an inspiring and enriching experience!
