OCM BOCES Thompson Road Career and Technical Education Alumni Hall of Fame Nomination Form 2024 04/24/2024

**PLEASE SHARE**
The OCM BOCES Career and Technical Education Alumni Hall of Fame was established in 2011 to honor individuals who have graduated from our CTE programs and who demonstrate leadership in their field. Each year, nominations are reviewed by a subcommittee made up of our OCM BOCES CTE Advisory Committee. The committee reviews the nominations for the following qualifications:
1. OCM BOCES Career and Technical Education Graduate;
2. Engagement in an occupation related to the program completed at OCM BOCES;
3. Demonstrate leadership in his/her field;
4. Exercise civic responsibility.
The winners of the award will have a commemorative plaque placed in the "Hall of Fame" within their respective campus of graduation.

OCM BOCES Thompson Rd CTE is proud to recognize and celebrate the 136 newest members of National Technical Honor Society. The National Technical Honor Society exists to honor, recognize, and empower students in Career & Technical Education. NTHS honors the achievements of top CTE students, provides close to $300,000 in scholarships annually, and strives to help connect education and industry to build a highly skilled workforce.

Students in the Construction Technology program visited the Carpenters Union Local 277 Training Center in Syracuse, NY. Carpenters Local 277 represents the 21 counties in New York, covering the Northern, Central, and Southern Tier areas. They are currently accepting apprenticeship applications.

Kristine Manabo, a senior from Solvay High School and a student in the Laboratory Technician program, has created a beautiful drawing in honor of Women’s History Month. Kristine’s drawing is being proudly displayed at our Thompson Road campus where students are encouraged to add the name of a woman they admire to the poster. Great Job, Kristine!

Onondaga County District Attorney William Fitzpatrick recently visited students in the OCM BOCES New Vision Criminal Justice program. DA Fitzpatrick highlighted various cases he has worked on, offering students a firsthand perspective on the complexities of the legal system. During his visit, DA Fitzpatrick discussed the critical role evidence plays in building a prosecution case and achieving justice. Students had the chance to ask questions and gained valuable insights into the world of criminal justice.

Matt Sacca, head of development at American High, came to the Media Marketing Communications Program embedded at WCNY to speak to seniors about film production. Seniors had a chance to ask him about the film making process and how to break into the industry. Mr. Sacca also is responsible for approving college students for internships. He provided students with information regarding potential opportunities to work for a local film production company. 🎥

OCM BOCES CTE students from the Welding Technology, Automotive Collision Technology, and Construction Technology programs teamed up with students from Innovation Tech to assist Sleep in Heavenly Peace - NY, Syracuse with the construction of beds for children and families in need. Together, they helped provide 35 beds to local children.

OCM BOCES Thompson Rd CTE is extremely grateful to Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon for taking time out of his busy schedule to visit students in the New Vision Criminal Justice Program. Mr. McMahon engaged with students on such topics as the Covid crisis, Micron, the Aquarium revitalization, and Law Enforcement Leadership. His insight into various community issues provided students with a first hand look at the complexities behind these issues and encouraged students to become active participants in shaping the future of Onondaga County.
