Did you know?
Long Island School for the Gifted—is part of the ancestral homeland of the Matinecock people, the Indigenous people of this region. We recognize and honor that history as an important part of the story of this place.

The name Syosset itself comes from “Suwasset,” a Matinecock word meaning “place in the pines.” The name offers a reminder that the history of this community reaches back long before the schools and buildings we know today.
