As this school year comes to an end, it will also be the end to my career in education. It’s been a fantastic career! From my 5th grade classrooms to ESOL teacher to Instructional Technology Specialist to Media Specialist, it’s been an amazing ride and I’ve met some of my best friends! WCMS Book Fair was a huge success this week! Thank you students, staff, and our community.

Hard to believe it’s November already. We’ve been busy in the Media Center with class visits, book checkouts, a big new book order, and our stations. Also recording and editing our WCMS Morning News and brainstorming ideas for our yearbook. ⁣
⁣
Our station activities so far have included:⁣
•Creating Popsicle Stick Bookmarks⁣
•Building K’Nex Scooters⁣
•Building Memory & Pattern Skills with Simon ⁣
•Creating Circuits using electrical energy for light and sound⁣
⁣
We’ve connected books to each activity and most books were checked out. Yay!

Shout Out to this group from our Morning News Crew! The beginning of school is busy for all staff. We haven’t got our recording schedule set up yet or all of our team back together. I just couldn’t break away from beginning school tasks to help them. These girls set up and recorded our week’s morning news “on-the-fly.” They are such a big help to me! Great job girls! The future looks bright!

𝙊𝙧𝙞𝙜𝙖𝙢𝙞 𝙔𝙤𝙙𝙖 𝘽𝙤𝙤𝙠 𝙎𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝙗𝙮 𝙏𝙤𝙢 𝘼𝙣𝙜𝙡𝙚𝙗𝙚𝙧𝙜𝙚𝙧 ⁣
There are eight books in this series and they were inspiration for our origami bookmark station. ⁣
Students used origami instructions and art items such as googley-eyes, stickers, markers, and emoji cutouts to design their own origami bookmark. The bookmarks have a pocket that fit on the corner of the book page.
⁣
In each of the books, origami characters inspired by Star Wars, along with others characters Dwight, Tommy, and Sara, navigate middle school in a hilarious and sweet way. ⁣

The book 𝘾𝙤𝙙𝙚 𝙏𝙖𝙡𝙠𝙚𝙧 - 𝘼 𝙉𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙡 𝘼𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙉𝙖𝙫𝙖𝙟𝙤 𝙈𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙒𝙤𝙧𝙡𝙙 𝙒𝙖𝙧 𝙏𝙬𝙤 𝙗𝙮 𝙅𝙤𝙨𝙚𝙥𝙝 𝘽𝙧𝙪𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙘 was used to connect to our Computer Binary Coding stations. ⁣
⁣
Students used beads and the computer binary coding converter to represent their first and last initials. The coded bracelets were colorful creations by our students. ⁣
⁣
Binary code is the most basic computer code using only two numbers, zero and one in a series of patterns to create the basic layer of all computing systems and the primary language of digital technologies. ⁣These codes are a “secret” language understood by computers.
⁣
Code Talker is a historical fiction book. The story is told by Ned, a Navajo man who joins the Marines and enlist in the code talker program where he is trained to decipher and send messages in his native Navajo language. ⁣
29 Navajo men started in 1942 using their native language to send secret communications to the battlefield. The Marines used these codes to send and receive coded messages quicker and more secure. The Navajo Code was the only military code in modern history to never be broken by the enemy. ⁣

Constructions Straws with the book “𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘙𝘦𝘮𝘢𝘳𝘬𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘑𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘯𝘦𝘺 𝘰𝘧 Co𝘺𝘰𝘵𝘦 𝘚𝘶𝘯𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘦” 𝘣𝘺 𝘋𝘢𝘯 𝘎𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘵, in one of our recent rotations got our students into a creative construction mood. ⁣
⁣
The book is about a girl, Coyote and her dad embarking on a long road trip after the death of her mom and sisters. Because of a promise made between them all years ago, Coyote convinces dad to drive back to a park where they previously lived to retrieve the memory box buried there long ago by the sisters and their mom. The road trip includes some interesting characters who are given rides along the way who contribute to the heartwarming story. ⁣
⁣
Our students used Construction Straws to build any form of transportation they wanted for a possible road trip. We hade cars, helicopters, rockets, and planes built. Some were very creative building a skateboard/scooter, a time machine, and even Mary Poppin’s umbrella. The instructions were something for transportation. They all fit the directions.
