Shwew! Maycember is a term we heard thrown around this year, hinting that the pace of the end of year festivities is similar to the holiday season, and there's something to it! So much activity and, hopefully, lifelong memories being made for our students.
Check out this action packed final weekly update, including the link to the year end highlight video and 5th Grade tribute, details on all of the year end events...Lemonade Day, the 3rd Grade Talent Show, Earth Day, Field Day, 5th Grade Camp, the Kindergarten Exotic Zoo, our author visit, the World Cup Challenge final results, and tributes to our retiring teachers and exiting HPO Board members!

So many 3rd Graders made lemonade out of the 🍋 weather 🌧️ yesterday and hosted their Lemonade Day stands anyway! We are proud of their determination and resilience.
Another round today! Don’t forget to tag the Sylvania Area Chamber of Commerce so that you can be in the running for Entrepreneur of the Year!
For everyone stopping and supporting their economics and entrepreneurial learning, THANK YOU! Also, special shoutout to the real lemonade pros at The Squeeze for driving around town and supporting our kids’ stands. We can officially dispel the rumors that they were conducting reconnaissance for lemonade recipe tips. They were just there to support the next generation of entrepreneurs.

We were SOOOO happy to welcome Caldecott Medal honoree Philip Stead, author of the amazing Amos McGee children’s books, and more! It’s so interesting to learn about how skilled professionals go about their work of thinking, creating, writing, and illustrating.
A big thank you to the Highland Parent Organization - HPO for sponsoring Mr. Stead’s visit! Also, kudos to our reading intervention team for planning and organizing Mr. Stead’s visit today. They had him all over our school presenting to big groups, meeting with individual classes, and even individual meet and greets. Thank you, Kelly Cochrane Duwve, Sue Niese Garrett, and Mrs. Emch!

What makes an experience great? It’s the people. Highland is so fortunate to call parents like Lori Witham one of our own. Not only does she run a book club for kids, she started our Highland Science Olympiad Team this year. Our kids cracked computer codes, built catapults, protected eggs from death defying heights, and dolled out their knowledge on birds, invasive species, history making scientists, cartography, and so much more. You win with people. The Highland experience is what it is because of the amazing families and teachers that we have in the fold. Congratulations to all of the Cardinals that had the courage to travel to Cleveland and compete today in our first ever Science Olympiad tournament, AND to the students who earned medals!
