Shared from the Jackson County Veterans FB site: "Ok people listen up! I [Tom Baker] just want to remind you about the hump this Saturday, the [September] 30th. We will start at ten o’clock on the back side of the [WCU] fairgrounds. The traffic will be tough and parking will be scarce. Come early and if you can carry a pack with some water. We will take a break in the Catamount Gap while a couple of us repel off the Cliff with ol glory. Remember the purpose is to bring attention to the number of veterans and active duty personnel who kill themselves everyday. The number is 22, wear it, show it and understand it!"

The Jackson County Veterans Office's annual dinner is being advertised earlier than usual, and reservations may be made now. The event takes place 6-8 p.m., Nov. 9, in The Heritage Room at Jackson County Dept. on Aging, which is located at 100 County Services Park in Sylva.

Dinner is free for the Veteran and one guest, and reservations are required. Call Sheila Setzer or Wendy Smith at 828.631.2231. Call the same number if you later discover that you are unable to attend, so that another Veteran may do so.

According to the Sylva Herald:
"Blue Ridge Free Dental Clinic of Cashiers will be hosting a Veterans Only Day on Aug. 5. Participants must sign up to be seen. If you are a veteran in need of dental care, contact Sheila or Wendy at 631-2231 at The Jackson County Veterans Office to sign up. Appointments are scheduled on a first come, first served basis. Services provided will be examination of painful teeth and gums, extractions, cleanings, fillings, abscess teeth and X-rays. Sign-ups must be completed by July 15."

The Jackson County Veterans Organization 22 Hump starts at 10 a.m. this Saturday (Sept. 25). You may park and wait at the Credit Union and then join the march. Another option is to start walking anywhere along the way. Honor those who are gone and hope that no more will follow!
