KNOLLWOOD MEET THE TEACHER

My name is Misty Barnes and I’m the music teacher at Knollwood Christian School and the Director of Knollwood Mom‘s Morning Out program.

After marrying my husband almost 25 years ago, I have lived in six states, but Alabama will always be home!
I have three daughters and a wonderful son-in-law. We all attend First Free Will Baptist Church in Sylacauga, where I am the children’s choir Director.

I have been in children’s choir since I was five and I started taking piano lessons at nine. I love all things music!
I’ve had many wonderful teachers like Mrs. Judy Dean Price and Mrs. Cathy Taylor.

My favorite part of teaching at Knollwood has been the study of hymns, authors and lyricist. Also having each child sing solos and find their voice. *Fun fact from last year: I cried at our first dress rehearsal for the Spring Hymn program. And I told them if they made me cry like a baby they would all get lots of chocolate. I had to purchase 120 full-size bars of chocolate because of that promise.

My favorite Saturday activity is spending time with my family and going to a Convention Singing. I am a board member for the Alabama School of Gospel Music under the direction of Tom Powell. My family attends two weeks of Singing School every June and 1-2 weeks of Singing School during July every summer.

My favorite passage in scripture comes from Philippians 4:4-9. Especially verse seven... “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding…”

I can’t wait to see the children learn new songs, harmony and instruments this year.
