The last art class of the summer is this week. I saved the best for last... WATERCOLOR!
join us Tues./Thurs. 9-11 am
Last week was such an over the top, high energy, super creative week at Lifepoint Curch Creative Arts Camp. My little Visual Arts Focus Group and all of the counselors were amazing. Here are just a few pictures of their creations.
What is it about clay that excites every single kid? I don't really know what magic it holds but I sure am glad someone discovered it. Tonight's clay class started with 7 kids who hardly knew each other, little by little the conversations grew as they each shared their vision for their clay castles. Bear traps, canons and lava filled moats took center stage as their imaginations ran wild. I just sat and listened as the magic of clay transformed my garage into a mid evil world. Oh how I love art!
What a great day! I spent the whole day creating art. My girls in sculpture class made a rock cactus garden. I painted in watercolors with one of my favorite little artists then turned her painting into a 3-D waterlily. In between I worked on artwork samples for Lifepoint Creative Arts Camp next week. And I'm not done yet... clay class is tonight.
Next week is Sculpture class. We will focus on balance and use a low temp glue gun and lots of colorful crayons to create an abstract sculpture.
Come join us...
Tues./Thurs. 9-11 a.m.
This morning we decided to be silly with colored pencil and watercolor pencil. It was a lot of fun.
This morning's drawing class was such a delight. Two lovely young ladies joined me and look how beautiful their portraits are. We took a look at Modigliani's work and created our own in his style. I just love the expressions and simplicity of these pieces. Definately framable!
Coming up this week is Drawing class. We will take a look at Modigliani's famous portraits and explore his style with oil pastels. They are so beautiful and elegant.
Class time has been changed to:
Tuesday and Wednesday 9-11 a.m.
Come join us and get creative!

Tonight's class has a challenging but fun painting awaiting. I can't wait to see the results, stay tuned...
Another successful painting class this morning. Freddy joined us as we painted a brilliant sunset with palm trees and cat tail silhouettes. I just love how each artist has their own interpretation even when given the exact same directions. Makes me want to vacation on a tropical island.
Our first acrylic class was such a success. What a great group of young artists. They were so focused. And of course Freddie had to join us. Another class meets tonight at 7. It's not too late to sign up.
Rainy days are opportunities to be creative. Aspen trees in chalk pastel.
I cannot wait to do this painting with my morning acrylic painting class. It was so much fun and easy, too.
This week kicks off a summer full of art I can't think of a better way to spend my summer than with young artists being creative and having fun. I've spent at least 20 years teaching summer art classes and every summer I am amazed at the talent and imagination of my students. A cup of coffee, some good music and a group of creative kids...that's a recipe for a fantastic summer. Come join us!

Yesterday's watercolor class was so enjoyable. What a great group of budding artists. Can't wait to see the finished product.
Well the verdict is in...coffee ice cream is the winner. Who knew kids would puck that flavor. Two out of three chose coffee and the other went a totally different route and turned the ice cream into a flower. I stuck with sherbert. Yum!
Optical illusions fascinate me. I'm always amazed at how her eyes can be tricked. Join me next Wednesday and Thursday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. for my optical illusion class. This is the last class of the summer. Don't miss it.
Paper mache ice cream cones are almost as good as the real thing (well at least they don't melt). It's always exciting to see the final result. What kind of ice cream will they pick and how will they decorate their scoops? Stay tuned to find out...

[06/22/18] I am getting super excited about my summer art classes. They are starting to fill up and it looks like it will be a fun summer of getting creative. If you haven't signed up your little artist take a look at the schedule of classes and sign up soon. The schedule can be found below.
Every artist has their favorite medium, mine is definitely watercolors. Each year my second graders study Georgia O'Keeffe and her watercolor flowers. We talked about organic shapes, abstraction, enlargement and ultimately the wet on wet technique used in watercolors. Students choose a flower and use watercolors to create a painting, I am always amazed at the beauty in these paintings. Watercolor looks easy but it's actually very difficult and so many of these students have learned to control the color in a way that creates a beautiful painting. Join my watercolor class this summer and learn different techniques and experiment with the colors and create your own masterpiece.
As an art teacher I can tell you there is nothing that makes me happier than when kids love what they are doing. Some art materials are just naturally motivating for any kid. CLAY is definately one of them. This summer I am offering a clay class for the kid who loves clay. Check out some of our past projects.
