Join the Mohsin & Fauzia Jaffer Center for Muslim World Studies at FIU as we hold our Annual interfaith Iftar dinner in observance of Ramadan, the holy month observed by Muslims worldwide. The FIU Interfaith Iftar dinner is a communal breaking of the fast that welcomes Muslims and non-Muslims alike to come together in a celebratory meal. It will begin with a short program followed by Maghrib prayer and then dinner.

The Jaffer Center hosted its 7th Annual Interfaith Iftar dinner at FIU. It was a great event filled with spirituality, reflection and good company. We also remembered those less fortunate, and hope that events like this will help build bridges between communities and have a lasting global impact. Zenel Garcia, associate professor, U.S. Army War College, will discuss “China's Muslim Frontier and the Politics of Security and Development” on Thursday, Feb. 22 at 12:30 PM. He will explore how Xinjiang, China emerged as China’s security and development lab for policy related to Uyghur and other Muslim minorities manifested in the Belt & Road Initiative – and how the BRI relies on domestic policies to isolate these groups and restrict their movement and socioeconomic activities. This event is presented by the FIU Mohsin and Fauzia Jaffer Center for Muslim World Studies.

The existence of evil in the world has always presented something of a conundrum for theists who espouse the doctrine of a Supreme All-Good Divine Being. Nizamuddin Ahmad, Prophet Muhammad Visiting Professor of Shi'a Islam Studies at the FIU Mohsin and Fauzia Jaffer Center for Muslim World Studies will present a talk on “The Metaphysics of Good and Evil” on Thurs., Nov. 16, 11 a.m. at FIU MMC.

Congratulations to Dr. Mohsin and Fauzia Jaffer, founders of the FIU Mohsin and Fauzia Jaffer Center for Muslim World Studies at the FIU Steven J. Green School of International & Public Affairs, who were named 2023 Humanitarian Silver Medallion Honorees of Mosaic Miami formerly MCCJ. The awards honor “those who have helped to build a more welcoming, inclusive, just and cooperative society” and were presented at the organization’s annual Humanitarian Dinner on May 7.
