Membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution honors and preserves the legacy of our Patriot ancestors. Over two hundred years ago, American Patriots fought and sacrificed for the freedoms we enjoy today. As a member of DAR, through participatio

n in the Society’s programs and activities, you can continue this legacy by actively supporting historic preservation and promoting educational and patriotic endeavors. Any woman 18 years or older, regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background, who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution, is eligible for membership. If you think you might have an ancestor who served in the American Revolution consider joining us. We will help you with the research to find and verify your patriot. We work together on activities that promote our American heritage, provide service for veterans, encourage preservation of genealogical records, commemorate events, promote conservation, provide scholarships for students and other activities sponsored by our chapter, the Tennessee Society and the National Society DAR. Membership in the DAR provides many opportunities to celebrate our American heritage of freedom, to preserve family and local histories, to promote our national holidays, to live patriotically, to support our national defense, to enjoy our beautiful member-owned buildings in Washington, DC and to form friendships with others who share our love of God, Home, and Country.

Rhea-Craig Chapter, DAR, commemorated the Edenton Tea Party last week with a skit and tea party at the home of Marty Stuntz McCampbell. On October 25, 1774, a group of ladies in Edenton, NC, drew up a resolution to boycott British tea and cloth in protest of taxation without representation and sent it to the King and newspapers in London and Williamsburg. It was one of the earliest-known protests written and organized by women in the American Colonies.
