FIU's MBRS RISE Program promotes the involvement of undergraduate and graduate students in research by providing salaries for the students, tuition for graduate students, and travel funds for the students to attend scientific meetings. The FIU NIGMS RISE Program exists for the purpose of advancing research training in the biomedical sciences; it provides graduate and undergraduate students compens

ation for a yearlong work obligation in a laboratory conducting biomedical research. Sponsored by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) - National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS), we are dedicated to increasing the number of undergraduate and graduate students from underrepresented groups in biomedical and behavioral research. It is designed to support academic success in the sciences, provide research training for graduate students matriculating at the college and assist undergraduate students enter into and successfully complete M.D./Ph.D. Undergraduate students may apply during their freshman, sophomore or junior years for participation in the program from the time of acceptance through their senior year. Graduate students may apply at any point during their FIU graduate program. ELIGIBLITY REQUIREMENTS:
• Undergraduate or Graduate (M.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
• GPA of 3.0 or better
• Enrolled as a full-time degree seeking student at FIU in the Biomedical, Behavioral or Health Sciences (Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry, Computer Science, Public Health, Physics, Psychology, etc. majors are eligible)
• Strong desire to pursue a career in Biomedical Research (Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D.)
• Be able to fully participate in the fellowship program for one (1) full academic year.
