Holley Elementary School recently wrapped up a two-week Kindergarten Camp, welcoming more than 20 incoming kindergarten students to the Holley school community.

Over the past two weeks, students had the chance to explore their classrooms, meet new friends and staff, learn school routines, and build confidence as they get ready for the start of the school year.

Kindergarten Camp is a great way to help our youngest students feel comfortable, connected, and excited about school. We are grateful to the staff and families who helped make the experience such a positive start for our newest Holley Hawks.

We look forward to seeing the Class of 2039 continue to learn, grow, and soar!

We’re proud to share this article from The New Era highlighting Tomas Rosa, Sweet Home High School’s new athletic director, and the important role athletics has played throughout his life.

Rosa grew up in Sweet Home, competed as a Husky student-athlete, and returned to SHHS as a teacher and coach. We’re excited to see him take on this new role and continue supporting our students, coaches and athletic programs.

We also want to recognize and thank Dan Tow for his many years of service to our community. In addition to serving as athletic director since 2021, Tow has had an accomplished career at SHHS as a teacher and coach. As athletic director, he helped guide Husky athletics through the return from the COVID shutdown and provided steady leadership for our students, coaches and athletic programs.

We appreciate all that Tow has contributed to Sweet Home students over the years and wish him the very best in retirement. We also congratulate Rosa as he begins this new role and look forward to the continued success of Husky athletics.

Go Huskies!

Tomas Rosa has said many times, publicly, that he’s grateful that he grew up in Sweet Home. A…

The Sweet Home School District is excited to announce Ryan Adams as the new principal of Oak Heights Elementary School.

For Adams, the opportunity to serve Oak Heights is especially meaningful. He attended Oak Heights Elementary School from kindergarten through sixth grade, beginning his own education in the same school he will now serve as principal. Adams later attended Sweet Home Junior High School and Sweet Home High School.

After earning his bachelor’s degree in education, Adams returned to Sweet Home and has spent the past seven years teaching at Sweet Home High School while also taking on numerous leadership roles throughout the district.

Adams brings extensive experience working with students, staff and families. In addition to his classroom teaching, he has served as a student leadership teacher, facilitated Professional Learning Communities, supported student discipline and conflict resolution, analyzed student achievement data, and gained administrative experience at both the elementary and high school levels.

He recently earned a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership and his Oregon Administrative License, adding to a Master’s Degree in Coaching and Athletics Administration earned in 2021.

Adams is also well known for his leadership of the Sweet Home High School football program. He will continue serving as the Huskies’ head football coach for the upcoming season while beginning his new role at Oak Heights. He has also made a positive impact with younger students through his experience coaching a Sweet Home youth basketball team.

Adams’ commitment to students, his strong relationships throughout the community and his lifelong connection to Sweet Home will serve him well as he takes on this new opportunity. His return to Oak Heights as principal brings his educational journey full circle, from beginning kindergarten at Oak Heights to now leading the school and serving its next generation of students.

Please join us in congratulating Adams and welcoming him back to Oak Heights Elementary School as its new principal.

8/17/2026 Update — As an additional precautionary measure, the Sweet Home High School swimming pool will be closed this week while temporary shoring is installed in the adjacent activity gym. Below is additional information about the closures and the work underway.

Why are the swimming pool and activity gym closed?

The activity gym is closed because a structural engineer identified an extended crack in one of the glulam beams supporting the gym roof.

As an additional precaution, the engineer recommended on Monday, August 17, that the adjacent swimming pool also be closed while temporary shoring is installed in the activity gym.

The swimming pool will remain closed through Friday, August 21. After the shoring is installed, the engineer will assess conditions and advise the District regarding reopening the pool and how the activity gym may safely be used.

Why is shoring needed in the activity gym?

The Sweet Home School District recently hired a structural engineer to inspect school buildings with engineered wood beams that support roof structures. This review was prompted by several structural failures involving engineered wood beams at other buildings. We want to take every reasonable precaution to ensure our facilities remain safe.

During the inspection, the engineer identified an extended crack in one of the glulam beams supporting the roof of the Sweet Home High School activity gym. The crack was not present during prior inspections.

Out of an abundance of caution, the engineer recommended closing the activity gym, and we have done so.

What is being done now?

We are working with a contractor to temporarily shore the affected beam while the structural engineer continues to evaluate options for a permanent repair.

How long will the activity gym be closed?

Once the temporary shoring is in place, the engineer will evaluate how the activity gym can safely be used while the shoring remains. We will follow the engineer’s recommendations.

The activity gym will need to close again when post-tensioning work on the roof support structure is performed as part of the repair process.

While these closures will create some inconvenience, we are grateful the issue was identified so it can be addressed appropriately. The safety of our students, staff and community remains our highest priority.

We will continue to provide updates as additional information becomes available.

The Sweet Home School District is pleased to announce that Stephanie Rabago has been hired as a new assistant principal at Sweet Home High School.

Rabago brings a strong background in school leadership, instructional coaching, student support, and college and career readiness. She most recently served as assistant principal at Oaklea Middle School in the Junction City School District, where she supported staff evaluation and development, student discipline, attendance interventions, school operations, and academic support systems.

Before becoming an assistant principal, Rabago served as the district leader for a college- and career-readiness program designed to help students develop the academic skills, organizational habits, and confidence needed for success after high school. In that role, she led implementation across multiple schools and provided instructional leadership, coaching, and professional development for administrators, coordinators, and teachers.

Rabago began her career in education as a teacher in the Salem-Keizer School District, where she taught math and collaborated with staff on school improvement efforts, professional learning communities, and student support systems.

A 2004 graduate of Sweet Home High School, Rabago was involved in numerous school and community activities during her time as a student. She was also honored as the Sportsman’s Holiday Court Queen. Rabago is excited to be back in the community that raised her.

This summer, Sweet Home High School students had the incredible opportunity to travel to Japan as part of our longstanding exchange with Josai University High School in Tokyo. During their visit, students experienced Japanese culture and traditions firsthand.

The Sweet Home–Josai relationship dates back more than four decades and has given generations of students from both communities the opportunity to experience life in another country and learn from one another. We are grateful to our friends at Josai and to the host families who welcomed our students so warmly.

Here are a few photos from our students’ adventures in Japan this summer. We are proud to continue this Sweet Home tradition.
