We’ve been making history since our earliest days. Our alumnae have been political leaders, doctors and veterinarians, scientists, innovators and disruptors. ic buildings are a learning lab that helps students write their own future. Our women’s leadership core curriculum is innovative and energizing. When our students graduate, they are persuasive communicators who know how to think on their feet and bring people together. No matter what they study or where they go from here, Sweet Briar women are prepared to lead. We’re a family of faculty, coaches, alumnae and friends who support and encourage students and each other. With an average class size of eight students, students lead research, ask questions and forge supportive relationships with faculty that can last for decades. Our students have a favorite rallying cry: “There’s nothing that you cannot do.” And that’s how you make history.

Summer Internship Spotlight: In the nation’s capital, Kendel Wickline ’27 served as an intern in the office of Representative John McGuire (VA-05). As an intern, she conducted legislative and policy research to support the drafting of bills for Representative McGuire’s legislative team and participated in policy and advocacy meetings. A political science major with a focus in pre-law, this experience directly connected back to her studies on campus.

“This internship has taught me that learning doesn’t end when you are outside of the classroom; if anything, it accelerates. While on ‘the Hill,’ I also had the opportunity to connect with fellow Sweet Briar alumnae. This is truly what puts Sweet Briar in a category of one. I would like to express my gratitude to Sweet Briar College and President Mary Pope Hutson ’83 for their unwavering mentorship throughout the process of applying and interviewing for this internship.”

We're thrilled four recent Sweet Briar graduates will be featured in the Emerging Voices: Student and Recent Alumni Exhibition at the Lynchburg Art Club & Gallery this fall! An opening reception will be held on Friday, Sept. 4 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. with a chance to speak with the featured artists, including Sydney Harris ’25, Sita Moses ’23, Leah Partington ’26, and Kaitlyn Rebert ’26.
