Sweeny ISD will hold a Voter-Approval Tax Rate Election (VATRE) on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.

A VATRE allows voters to decide whether a school district may access additional local revenue through its Maintenance & Operations (M&O) tax rate. For Sweeny ISD, approval of the VATRE would allow the District to shift two pennies of the tax rate from Interest & Sinking (I&S) to M&O, generating approximately $750,000 in additional annual revenue that would remain with Sweeny ISD.

This change would not increase Sweeny ISD’s overall 2026 tax rate. If approved, it would allow the district to use the money for our students and staff, safety and security, and to maintain daily operations.

The VATRE proposal will appear on the ballot as Proposition A.

We are so excited about the progress of our new Bulldog Stadium and Fieldhouse!

As we all know, construction timelines can change as a project nears completion. Weaver and Jacobs Constructors and their crews have been working seven days a week to complete the stadium, and we appreciate all of their hard work.

At this time, the SISD Bond Manager and Weaver and Jacobs have determined that the opening of the stadium needs to be delayed in order to make some of the finishing touches. The first home game, originally scheduled for Friday, October 16, will now be played at Hempstead at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 16. The JH and JV football games will be played in Hempstead on Thursday, October 15th. The first game will begin at 4:30 pm.

Our plan is to have our first home game at Bulldog Stadium on Friday, October 30th. This will be a special night as we recognize all senior groups and our Homecoming Court.

We will share more details as Friday, October 30th approaches, including the timeline of events and information about welcoming everyone to the new Bulldog Stadium.
