Third-grade students kicked off kindness by participating in their first Character Strong lesson. This month students will learn that kindness is acting with understanding, generosity, and care. Students will be encouraged to make a difference at Sweeny Elementary by putting kindness to action.

Today, Mrs. Lanfear's students got up, moved around, and learned a little more about the friends they will be learning alongside this year!

Students participated in a “Find Someone Who…” activity where they had to talk with their classmates to find someone who matched each description on their page.

While it may have looked like a fun get-to-know-you game, students were also practicing some BIG skills - communication, listening, asking questions, building confidence, and making connections with others.

Building a strong classroom community starts with getting to know one another, and we loved seeing new conversations, connections, and friendships begin to form!

We’re working hard to make our classroom a place where every student feels seen, valued, and like they belong.

After reading If I Built a School by Chris Van Dusen, Mrs. McCurdy’s 3rd grade class had a chance to get creative! They started by writing about what would be included in their school if they built one. Then, in groups they shared ideas, planned their dream school, and sketched out simple plans. They ended by constructing their dream schools with various building materials.

Who says learning class expectations for working in groups can’t be fun? 😊

Elementary families,
We have made some slight adjustments to the dismissal process. Beginning today, buses will pick up students from the back of the school. Please see the following reminders:
Buses: morning drop-off in front; afternoon pickup from the back.
Grades 1–2: afternoon pickup in the left lane, lining up along Sycamore
Grades 3–5: afternoon pickup in the right lane, lining up along Texas Ave. (no need to wait for buses)
Pre-K/Kinder: continue using the Kindergarten Loop.
Older siblings: picked up with their younger sibling in their designated area.
Back driveway: must remain clear for buses.
Please be patient with our staff and other families as we work to ensure our students arrive at school and return home safely each day. Student drop-off in the morning begins at 7:30 am. Please do not drop them off earlier, as staff is not on duty to supervise them. As you approach the line of vehicles, do not cut in line but join the end of the line. Thank you for helping us with this process

To ensure a smooth start to the school year, our elementary campus will not be able to accommodate lunch visitors until August 24th.
This will give our staff and students time to review and practice our lunchroom and visitor procedures before we begin welcoming guests. We appreciate your understanding and patience as we get settled into the new school year.
We look forward to welcoming you for lunch beginning August 24th!

Welcome Back to School! We are having a great first day! 💙
