This weekend, the Sweeny High School Robotics Team — Team 7616 Cerberus — competed at their second district event at Clear Brook High School in Friendswood.
After overcoming early challenges, the team found their stride and successfully completed a Level 3 climb — a huge milestone for the robot and drive team. Their strong performance earned them a spot in Alliance 3 alongside Team 2587 DiscoBots and Team 324 from Clear Brook High School.
The alliance battled their way through the playoffs with only one loss to the top-ranked alliance. After securing a semifinal victory, they advanced to the finals, where they fought hard in a thrilling match that came down to a single point.
In addition to their on-field success, Team 7616 was honored with the Creativity Award, sponsored by Rockwell Automation. This award celebrates a creative robot component, concept, or attribute that enhances strategy of play, and was intentionally designed, and not discovered. Judges praised the team, saying:
“This team has unleashed their resourcefulness in this competition. Their bot climbs to level 3 in a way you wouldn’t expect from this three-headed monster of a team: a double claw that works seamlessly in competition.”
We are incredibly proud of our students’ hard work, resilience, and innovation.
A huge thank you to our alliance partners who chose us as their third team, Team 2587 DiscoBots and Team 324, for an amazing run — and to our sponsors, 3M, The Dow Chemical Company, NI Emerson, Byrd Brothers HVAC, and the Gene Haas Foundation, for your continued support in making opportunities like this possible.
