The KEA would like to thank all of the students, parents, co-workers and friends of Lisa Camp that attended the Board meeting and Solidarity Rally on June 29th on her behalf. Since the matter was not resolved that evening, the KEA has filed with PERC for the grievance to be decided by an independent arbitrator. Moving forward, we will continue to post any pertinent information.

Solidarity Rally
When: Thursday, June 29, 2017, 7:00 PM
Where: Kingsway Regional High School East Cafeteria

If you are available please come out and support Lisa Camp by attending this Thursday’s Board of Education (BoE) meeting. Lisa Camp is a 15.5 year veteran, world language teacher at Kingsway Regional High School who has taught Level 5 or AP Italian for the last 12 years. She has also been an advisor for the PAWS Club for the last 6 years. Lisa needs your support in her fight to overturn the BoE’s decision to withhold her increment and step advancement for the upcoming school year (they are essentially freezing her salary as discipline). We contend this is a disciplinary action that lacks just cause.

The BoE meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 pm. There is generally an open comment session during the BoE meeting where the public is able to provide commentary for the Board’s consideration. If you feel so inclined to speak, this would be the time to do so. If you do not wish to speak, even your silent attendance at the BoE meeting can send a strong message of support for Lisa (we ask that if you have one, wear your KEA Polo shirt or red and black colors).

Following the regular Board meeting we expect them to move to a closed session for the formal grievance hearing at 8:00 PM.

Please feel free to share this message to spread the word in an effort to support a teacher loved and respected by many parents, faculty, and current and former students!

Okay Salem folks- you've got your publicly elected board now giving tickets to their board meetings. Unhappy with the public response, they're now boxing the public out. Keep that in mind for the next election.

Ignoring multiple requests to move to a bigger venue, the Penns Grove-Carneys Point BOE handed out tickets to its board meeting, limiting community input and participation. Guess they forgot who elected them in the first place.

Despite a budget surplus, the Swedesboro-Woolwich School District wants to fire 66 educators from the school district. Students deserve better!

Stand up for the students, staff and community at the next BOE Meeting. Wednesday, June 14, 6:30 pm.

Fight privatization wherever it rears its ugly head. We've had this fight multiple times in recent years at Kingsway.

Privatization
- Loses existing jobs for employees with good records.
- Often promises those employees "First Pick" but then removes them or moves them at will.
- Brings unvetted people into schools who are not part of our community.
- Often promises lower costs to the board in the first contract and then start ratcheting up the price in subsequent contracts.
- Funnels tax dollars to private, for-profit companies that used to go primarily to wages and benefits of employees.
- Puts kids in the hands of people hired through an outside company, not those employees hired by your school board.

Congrats, Deptford!

Long-term organizing pays off When the Deptford Education Association began organizing last year, its only goal was to obtain a fair settlement. Those efforts took a detour this past March as the association sought, instead, to protect Deptford’s students and save the jobs of their paraprofessional…

Our 16th president, Abraham Lincoln, once stated, “Upon the subject of education… I can only say that I view it as the most important subject which we as a people can be engaged in.

Another Dragon Tale published. SFRA needs to be funded fairly. Now.

The elimination of the Twilight alternative program was done out of dire necessity, but equally significant are the dire consequences this will have on students.
