In a traditional classroom, we might call this "stalling." In the forest, we call it "processing." 🌲

I once watched a child sit in this stump circle for nearly an hour. The child wasn't bored; she was observing. She was regulating. She was deciding how she wanted to engage with the world on her own terms.

Nature doesn't rush the process, and at Wonder Roots, neither do we. Sometimes the biggest developmental leaps happen when the adults just move out of the way.

It offers infinite variables, immediate feedback, and a curriculum that changes with the seasons.

We don't need expensive plastic toys when the forest floor provides everything needed for engineering, storytelling, and social negotiation.

Creating a "Yes Space" starts with trusting the environment to provide the lessons.

Our Forest Playgroup starts this Wednesday, May 6th! This is a space for our youngest explorers-- where nature is a sensory lab, sticks are the best toys, and parents get a chance to breathe while their children discover who they are in the wild.

We have just a couple of spots left for this spring session. Come join our gentle, child-led rhythm.

We don’t just "go outside", we build worlds. From engineering cardboard fortresses to deep-space survival missions, our camps are where stories come to life through nature, play, and pure imagination.

Ages 8-12:
🍄 July 6- Mushroom Kingdom: Real-life karts, castles, and boss battles.
🚀 July 27- Galactic Explorers: Deep-space survival missions and rocket launches.
🌈 Aug 17- Forest Festival: Carnival floats and color-powder celebrations.

Our founder, Colleen, had the incredible opportunity to volunteer this weekend as a Game Announcer & EmCee for the FIRST Tech Challenge New England Premier Event in West Springfield, MA with

​Whether it’s whittling spoons near the campfire or designing robots to navigate technical challenges, the core skills are identical: critical thinking, perseverance through failure, and creative problem-solving.

What a fantastic weekend of competition, community, and creativity. We are so proud to be part of a network that celebrates what happens when we step back and let kids lead the way! 🤖🌲

On May 12, we’re launching our Forest Architects workshop. It’s a day of building miniature worlds, exploring structural integrity, and deep imaginative play. It’s the perfect blend of engineering and woodland storytelling.
