It’s time to start getting ready for marching season, which for many percussion students means getting back into 4-mallet playing!

Using the correct technique is extremely important. Not only does it ensure good sound production, but it also prevents any injury sustained from prolonged playing (BAND CAMP 👀)

Hi everyone! It’s been a while. We are happy to announce that we are back!

Before we said goodbye to the 2021-2022 school year preparation for next year has begun, starting with new heads, ordering new instruments and repertoire, and making plans for next year. Check out this drum transformation below 👇

Sometimes Band programs receive donations of instruments. Often times those instruments need some TLC, and this is the case here. New heads and a deep clean will have this drum set looking and sounding as good as new!

As a result of these unprecedented times The Percussive Arts Society established a task force to address the topic of in person instruction. This group was comprised of leaders from many facets of the education community in an effort to address the numerous nuances and challenges ahead of us with the school year approaching. The document being published today is the result of much discussion, research and the outstanding contributions of these dedicated and insightful individuals. We hope you find them helpful and we wish everyone a safe and healthy remainder of the summer.

2020-2021? 🤯

There is a lot of uncertainty with how the school year. Some are fighting to keep music from being cut ✂️,some are trying to figure out how to incorporate effective digital learning 💻

Many directors were forced to create content for students at the end of the year on short notice. Lots of percussionists were left to practice pads and rudiments and/or scales (which we love) BUT we know you are working to have a percussion section that will continue to grow...even under the current circumstances.

Our goal during next week’s live session of our Percussion Bootcamp for Band Directors is to not only help you improve your pedagogy, differentiation, and inclusion of percussion in the band room but also to help arm you with resources and information to be flexible and make changes on the fly. We will be sharing tips on teaching percussion digitally and help you create engaging content for your percussionist (especially for those that will be doing a lot of hybrid teaching).

We want to say this here and now- and we will say it again and again: Black Lives Matter. We will not sit here and be silent. Yes, we have been working to launch session 1 of our Percussion Bootcamp for Band Directors but we also realize that it is our duty as educators to pause to step up, say what needs to be said, and do what needs to be done.

We have been trying to figure out what we can do to give back, show support, and work towards change together. We are still starting session 1 tomorrow BUT we are making some changes. The following applies to all sessions offered this summer:

1. We are offering free-tuition to 10 band directors at Title-1 schools each session. We want to support educators that educate in underserved areas & schools that often have a higher population of BIPOC students (see comments for code)
2. We will be donating 20% of paid tuition to Minnesotafreedomfund.org and https://www.gofundme.com/f/georgefloyd
3. We would like to discuss ways in which we can do better as educators to support our BIPOC students and colleagues.

We hope you will join us in donating to these organizations and use your voice to stand up against racism. It matters.
