Spark Learning Center is a new hybrid middle school program (grades 6–8) created by the team at ArtSpace Charter School that blends online coursework with in-person learning.

The work to prepare for the concrete pour continues and the building panels have arrived. The crew slowed down a bit this week, making sure that no work would be undone by this weekend's rain. Next week looks to be a busy one!

Every Friday, we'll be sharing an update of what's going on behind the fence here at the Spark building site.

This week, we're pouring concrete footers and received delivery of steel that will form the framework of our new learning space. This is very exciting progress!

Congrats to the flag football team for their 5-3 win over Odyssey! We’re proud of your hard work and effort on the field. 🏈

Our students are getting into the rhythm of learning together on campus, and we’re excited about what’s taking shape.

From creating electricity with lemons 🍋⚡️ to exploring measurement in math, students are getting hands-on with academics and discovering that learning can be active, collaborative, and fun.

And because middle school is about more than academics, there’s plenty of time to connect, too- from Lunch Bunch conversations to games and just enjoying time together.

We’re growing thoughtfully, one experience at a time, and we love seeing our students become more confident, curious, and connected along the way.

This is Spark. And we’re just getting started. ✨

One week down... and we're making history. ✨

Spark students have officially completed their very first week of school! We’re still gathering the moments that capture this beginning, but these groundbreaking photos remind us of the bigger story unfolding.

Last week's groundbreaking marked the beginning of something we’ve been dreaming about for a long time... a new kind of learning community, built around flexibility, creativity, connection, and the belief that there’s more than one way to do school.

One historic week is in the books.
And this is just the beginning. 💛

Meet new Spark and ArtSpace families, reconnect with old friends, and enjoy a relaxing summer afternoon together before school begins. Bring your own picnic or your favorite snacks if you'd like. There's no agenda - just time to visit, play, and enjoy each other's company.

Meet our new math teacher!

Originally from New York, Ben earned his Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from the University of Rochester, and his Master's Degree in Teaching from Western Carolina University. He has been working with diverse learners in North Carolina for over 20 years across experiential, traditional, therapeutic and virtual settings.

Ben believes that effective teaching begins with building meaningful and trusting relationships with students, in meeting students where they are at, and that students learn best when optimally challenged and holistically supported.

He is thrilled to be a part of Spark Learning Center in its inaugural year. During his free time, Ben enjoys reading science fiction, playing the piano, and spending time with his pup, River.
