Randy Day Racing

Randy Day Racing Randy Day racing http://www.randydayracing.com Founded on July 23, 1965
Bob and Doug Day began racing mid season in 1965.

They took a few years off over the years, but always found their way back to the track with a big desire to compete and win. They became well known around Northern Michigan for being very competitive on a very low budget and home made race cars. The story continued with Randy in 1991, after he made his first start and has raced every year since his first start back in 1991. Side note to Randy's st

ory, as a first race is always memorable, Randy's may have been more memorable as he snuck into the pits at M-113 Raceway (Cherry Raceway) to drive his father Bob's car. Bob had already wrapped up the championship in that car and Randy drove to a 4th place finish on the dirt. In the late 90's Bob passed on the torch to Randy for the driving as Bob made an occasional start into the 2000's but now focuses on the mechanics end of the team. The Day bunch has had many many wins, Fast qualifier awards and 3 points championships. Bob has 2 championships and Randy has 1. The team also competes in other classes as Randy still drives for Kenny and Channon Martin. Coming to the team a few years ago as a rookie looking to realize his dream of racing was Ben King. Ben finished 5th in points in his rookie year at Cherry Raceway before making the move to pavement late the following year. Ben is currently looking for sponsorship to help him move up to Outlaw Super Late Models in 2012. The Newest member of the team is 2012 Summer AVO Series Champion in the Animal class. Brad has accumulated over 200 wins during his 14 year Karting career. Brad will make his debut in Outlaw Super Late Models in 2013. From helping make dreams come true, to being one of the top Outlaw Super Late Model teams. RDR is determined to get it done, and show what they got.

9/19/18-Can/Am Northern Nationals update
A little behind on the updating, been a busy couple weeks.
RDR made the trip up north to Onaway Speedway for the Can/Am Northern Nationals with both the Modified and Outlaw Super Late Model.
In the Outlaw Super Late Model Randy had no practice as the crew was held up in traffic due to a very bad car accident that shut the roads down just outside Traverse City. Randy jumped in the car and was 3rd fast with a time of 13.67 missing fast time by .15 seconds
In the 15 lap heat race Randy took it easy and dropped to the rear and used it as a practice before making a charge late in the race to come home 5th.
In the Fast Car Dash Randy once again took it easy to save his tires and equipment for the feature and finished 4th.
In the feature Randy started deep in the field and was held up then once he was clear he started moving forward. The handling was a little off as Randy called for a couple changes just before the start of the race and went to far making the car to free. The car was still very fast and chased down the 4th and 5th place cars but ran out of laps and finished 6th.
In the Modified heat race was an exciting one as cars were swapping spots, falling back then charging forward multiple times during the 15 lap race. Randy finished 3rd.
In the Modified feature Randy got held up and dropped deep in the field then spun on his own going into turn 3. He made an adjustment to the brake bias under the caution to get more front brake in the car to stabilize it more and it worked, he then started moving forward and just made a move to the outside of a car when a couple of cars got together and he tagged the rear bumper of a car with his tire bending some front suspension components. After that the car just wouldn’t turn and Randy rode around trying to get the most out of the damaged car that he could and finished 8th.

Next race will be the Super Shoe Nationals at Kalamazoo Speedway with the Modified.

RDR made the trip to Springport Mid-Michigan Speedway with both the Modifed and the Outlaw Super Late Model.
In qualifying Randy ran into mechanical issues on lap 2 in the Modified and ended up 11th fast, in the Outlaw Super Late Model Randy ended up 7th fast.
In the Modified heat Randy started mid pack and quickly jumped to second place pressuring the leader till mid race when he took over the lead and went on to the win.
In the Outlaw Super Late Model Heat Randy started last and began moving up through the pack when mid race he jumped to third and the leaders tangled going into turn 1. The restart Randy was second but at the green he motored by to take the lead and go onto the win.
In the Modified feature Randy started on the pole due to the inversion. Randy lead for about 5 laps before dropping back to 7th. As the race went on Randy started closing getting faster with the cars handling coming in. Randy finished 6th
In the Outlaw Super Late Model feature Randy started third. At the start Randy started battling but missed the set up causing him to slip back to mid pack. Halfway through the race Randy was running 6th when the car had a mechanical failure ending his night early.

8/18/18- Onaway Speedway update.
The RDR crew went north to Onaway Speedway with both the Outlaw Super Late Model and the Modified with Randy Day behind the wheel of both cars.
In qualifying Randy was 3rd fast in the Modified and 4th fast in the Outlaw.
In the Outlaw heat race Randy started 6th and worked his way forward using the outside much of the race to finish second by 1/2 a car.
In the Modified Randy had trouble with the handling. While running 5th on the last lap Randy went into turn one and shot straight into the pit as the right front spindle broke. The crew went to work and had it fixed for the feature.
In the Outlaw feature Randy got boxed in and fell back then once he was clear he started charging forward and got to third, the top three drove away from the field and Randy was closing in on second when a caution came out.
With the Delaware Restarts Randy restarted on the outside in 3rd place. At the green Randy fought hard on the outside but the inside car slid up coming out of turn 2 and made contact with Randy and Randy checked up dropping him to fourth. Randy continued to battle with second through fifth being in a tight battle for the remainder of the race. Randy ended up 4th.
In the Modified Randy fell back at the start as the car wasn’t working good on the outside or on short runs. As the race settled down and cars got into line Randy ran seventh until second and third place had contact and brought out a caution. On the restart Randy held position until there were a few laps run and the handling cams in on the car then worked up to forth place. With being on old tires the handling started to fade and Randy settled for 4th place.
The RDR crew was pretty happy with the night as the Outlaw Rand great and the Modified ran decent and will have a couple new tires on it for the next race.

6/9/18- RDR update from Onaway Speedway opening night.
Sorry the update is so late, it’s been a busy couple weeks.
The RDR crew headed to Onaway Speedway for their opener after it had gotten delayed. We took both the Outlaw Super Late Model and the Modified to the track with $2000 going to the winner in each class.
The crew finished up the cars late and got loaded for the track to pull in during qualifying. Randy didn’t get any good laps with either car.
In the modified heat Randy jumped out to the lead and pulled away only to get disqualified for running to far over his time.
In the Outlaw heat Randy once again jumped out to the lead with a very fast car when the car began smoking like it did the week before at Springport. Randy had a huge lead but pulled into the pits so the RDR crew could try finding the problem.
In the Outlaw Feature Randy elected to start on the tail and pulled in early as the car still had a smoking problem.
In the Modified Randy started 19th with only a few late arrivals starting behind him. Randy missed a couple wrecks in front of him and drove up to a 7th place finish with a great battle for 6th. Randy nearly got past the 6th Place car a few times but snacked our to avoid incident. The crew was happy with how the car ran despite missing the set-up and will make a few changes before the next event.
The Outlaw Super Late Model smoking problem was found and fixed, the engine is ready to go back in the car.
The next event will be at Onaway Speedway Saturday June 23 with both the Outlaw Super Late Model and the Modified.

6/3/18- Outlaw Showdown update.
Saturday RDR made the return to Outlaw Super Late Model racing at Springport Mid-Michigan Speedway. During hot laps the team had throttle linkage trouble and didn’t have time to really work on the cars handling. The team got the issues fixed by qualifying and made their first real laps with the new car. Randy ended up 15th fast out of the 24 cars.
The crew made some changes to the car to try in the heat race. Randy jumped to an early lead and pulled away. A cautions closed the pack back up but at the drop of the green Randy started to pull away again and picked up the win.
Randy started 14th in the feature right behind the fast qualifier. At the green Randy just wanted to keep pace with the pack and get laps in the new car. 9 laps in seen a car a couple rows up hit the wall at the pit opening and turn back down the track. Randy avoided the incident. After the red flag Randy started trying a few different lines then a power steering issue sidelined the RDR car. With the DNF Randy ended up 19th. The crew will fix the issue and got over the car and set-up to make it faster.
Next race will be Onaway Speedway with Randy Day behind the wheel of the Modified and Outlaw Super Late Model.
