With a 4 hour per week minimum, up to 40 hours on a week by week basis, child care for up to two children included, we are the perfect job for a SAHM who needs to add a little extra bump to her budget! Grow from the STEM is now opening up multiple full time preschool and daycare spaces! Our program operates out of Sutter Creek, 6AM to 6PM, Monday through Friday. COVID19 has had a far reaching effect on our families; as our parents struggle to cope with the stress and change of the new paradigm created by COVID19 kids are still left in the dark, often times presenting with symptoms of the same stress and anxiety their parents are experiencing. After dealing with the science of infectious disease and how to prevent it, we looked at the science of stress and anxiety, how to cope with it, and how to redirect your fight, flight or freeze response to make clearer decisions. After two months even our toddlers are able to express whe they're feeling stressed, rewire their tantrums and fits using breathing and other techniques, and identify the parts of the brain that regulate emotion and coherent thought.

Are your kids acting crazy? There's a good chance they're feeling the stress you're feeling; turns out children's right brain, emotional responses are way better developed than their logical ones. That means that when they see you nervous, or hear you talking about scary stuff they don't understand they will pick up your unease. Worse yet, they don't really know what/ who is safe or how to be safe. They don't know what you are doing to keep yourself and them safe. They don't know how their body works to fight off viruses not even what a virus is.
To help alleviate their stress, we've designed a virus unit for our science study. We've been talking frequently about the things that are worrying them, and the ways in which they *can* control their environment. Today's science lesson focused on what the Corona virus looks like, how T cells and B cells in your body fight them off, and of ourse how washing hands and covering coughs can help prevent the spread of the virus. We are focusing on talking about how so many of the people we know are safe, how we can help ourselves be safe and how we can manage our stress

Here at Grow from the STEM we never stop learning. Both our college level class in socioemotional development and some recent work we've done on the subject through First 5 have inspired us to create more space in our play area for work on emotional regulation. Thanks to everyone who helped us work on this crucial aspect of development!
