We are back in the swing here after Christmas and back to normal routines. This is the time of year where I assess all of my students to find out what their progress is and exactly what is needed to make sure I am giving each of them the best possible service that I can provide.

This weekend I will be taking my tutoring on the road. It is so cool that my students can go anywhere they would normally go and not miss their tutoring session. The same is true for me. I get to spend the day with some fabulous ladies networking and then tutor my students in the evening in Naperville, IL

Here is what a dyslexic adult client had to say about my services.
"I was about to go to bed but couldn't keep it in... I just had to share!
I have been reading "life in Colors" and am reading more than i ever would have expected... even just a bit here or there... I am on page 62 as of this moment...
Chris and I are also listening to "overcoming Dyslexia" very interesting so far... only about 2 hrs into it.

It is so empowering to think that I can and AM getting better at reading... I have to say I am really excited to learn about the rest of the patterns such as bossy R... I told my mom about the first 3 so far and she was very impressed... and interested... also what i have learned from the audio book overcoming dyslexia Chris and my parents are all very interested...

I am very excited to continue!"

Have you heard of the Matthew Effect? In essence, it states that the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. This is the case for children who have dyslexia or are struggling with reading. The reason is because children who are good at reading, tend to do a lot of reading. Children who struggle with reading do not read as much because it is not an enjoyable task for them. So the gap between strong readers and struggling readers increases. There is a solution!!! Have children read books at their indepedent level for pleasure. The simplest way to do this is to hook them on a series. If you hook a child on a series, then you hook them for life. Check out Conspiracy 365 if you have a reader that is older and does not enjoy reading. They will love it. It is written at a 5th grade level and is geared towards middle school and high school children. Even adults love it. I am currently on May the 5th book in the series.

I am tutoring a student as she is in the car with her dad onto their next event for the evening. How cool is that? You can't get that kind of service with Sylvan.
