Greetings Cougar Families,

Please take note of the following October reminders:

Bullying Prevention Month: October is Bullying Prevention Month. Throughout the month, we will spread awareness to educate and empower our students to stand against bullying. We encourage you to discuss the importance of kindness and respect with your children at home.

Homecoming & Early Dismissal for Students: Friday, October 16, 2026 is Homecoming day! Students will have an early dismissal at 12:00 p.m. Please join us for the homecoming parade starting at 3:00 p.m. and the football game at 7:00 p.m. We hope to see you there to Celebrate Your Cougar Pride in Every Stride!

Asynchronous Learning Day: On October 12, 2026, students will have an asynchronous learning day. This means that students will not attend school in person but will instead complete assignments and activities provided by their teachers. This day allows teachers to participate in professional development activities.

Report Cards: Report cards will go home on October 30, 2026.

Thank you for your attention to these important updates. If you have any questions or need further information, please do not hesitate to contact the main office of your child’s school.

Greetings Cougar Families,

Back-to-School Night is Thursday, October 8, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. for all Surry Elementary and Luther Porter Jackson Middle School students and families. Join us at your child’s school to meet teachers, visit classrooms, and learn more about the curriculum, schedules, and expectations for a successful school year. A light dinner will be served. If you plan to join us for dinner, please RSVP by completing the form provided by your child’s school.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We want to share the following important upcoming events and reminders for September:

Interim Reports will be available in the Parent Portal app today, Thursday, September 17, 2026. These reports provide a mid-term update on your child's academic progress. Please review them carefully and feel free to contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions or concerns.

Parent-Teacher Conferences - Teachers will contact parents directly to set up virtual parent-teacher conferences during the week of September 21 - 25, 2026. This is a valuable opportunity to discuss your child's progress and address any questions or concerns you may have with your child’s teacher(s).

Attendance - Every day matters! Regular attendance helps students stay connected, engaged, and on track for success. We encourage families to continue making daily attendance a priority and to reach out if your child is experiencing challenges that may affect attendance. Together, through connection, collaboration, and communication, we can provide the CARE our Cougars need to succeed!

The RESET FOR SUCCESS: Wellness Explosion is a FREE community wellness event designed to bring youth, families, schools, faith-based organizations, and community leaders together for a day of connection, education, prevention, and empowerment. The event will be held on Saturday, September 12th in Surry, VA. (Please see the attached flyer for details.)
