Time to start bothering Glendale City Council!

“Councilmember,

Even though this project is miles away from Glendale, the toxic air pollution will travel here. It will affect our health as well as the economy of Glendale. No one will want to come to spring training, concerts, parks, or restaurants.

I urge you to rethink your decision to approve annexation of Project Baccara. This is a terrible investment for Glendale, and as your constituent, we will hold you accountable for the damage it causes us.

Is Glendale responsible for the $20 Million in Healthcare costs? Will Glendale be responsible for the increased utility rates? Will Glendale be responsible for Emergency Services?

Do your job, and listen to your constituent.

Even though this project is near Surprise rather than Glendale, this project will harm your constituents as much as the rest of the county.

Annexing Project Baccara is ENVIRONMENTAL VIOLENCE. It will add hundreds of millions of tons of toxic pollution into our air. It will cost upwards of $20 Million annually in healthcare costs. Air pollution kills 5 million people globally per year. No amount of air pollution is safe.

Although I am not a resident of Glendale, I will hold Glendale accountable by boycotting all Glendale business, Glendale events, Spring Training games, and any other activities that will generate revenue for the City of Glendale.

DO NOT ANNEX PROJECT BACCARA. You will be held accountable for the harm you inflict on the county.

Our first line of recourse is to demand a motion of reconsideration. This puts it back on the agenda to repeat the hearing. Let’s do it!! It gives the BOS another opportunity to make the correct decision.

“Hello Supervisor,

I am outraged that you voted in approval for Project Baccara. Project Baccara does not have a completed plan of development, proof that it is complient with all of Luke Air Force’s required stipulations, and will cause over $20 Million annually in healthcare costs alone.

The petition has over 8,400 signatures, 553 people emailed in opposition prior to the board vote, and around 30 people spoke in opposition. There are too many unanswered questions regarding the safety and legality of this project.

I demand that you enact a motion of reconsideration at the next county board meeting. This project needs much more scrutiny in order to make a safe decision. Do your job and represent your constituents! “

“Massive gas-fueled power plants have no place near residential areas. Studies show that living in the same zip code as a gas-fueled power plant increases hospitalizations for lung related diseases by up to 20% annually! Clean air is a right, not a luxury! Deny Project Baccara!

“Project Baccara has no permit, contract, or any sort of formal agreement for its toxic wastewater management! It is irresponsible governance to approve a project before all vital details are legally resolved. Deny Project Baccara!”

“Recent studies show that data centers create 6-mile radius heat islands of increased heat up to 16 degrees Fahrenheit. Will Maricopa County be responsible for the excess utility cost impacts this will have? Maricopa County is already dangerously hot! Deny Project Baccara!”

“Takanock purposefully left out its diesel generator projected emissions to avoid the strict oversight and carbon offset requirements of a Major New Source permit. Maricopa County already suffers from some of the worst air quality in the country, and excess ozone, particulate matter, and greenhouse gasses are proven to cause cancer and other serious diseases. Who will be paying the $19.3 Million of excess annual healthcare costs Project Baccara will cause? Will Maricopa County be footing that bill?”

“There has not been any cumulative environmental impact studies conducted to ensure that Project Baccara and all other new data center developments are safe for Maricopa County Residents! Do not approve Project Baccara because it’s true permanent impacts are unknown!”

“Luke Airforce Base has described Project Baccara as an ‘explosive hazard.’ The commander of LAFB recently stated that Project Baccara is NOT compatible! Do not approve this project!”

“Recent studies have shown that data centers are hiding their true water consumption from the public. The Colorado River is still under negotiations, and we don’t even know if Arizona will have enough water to sustain our current water consumption rates. With so much uncertainty about our county’s water security, we cannot risk Tackanok misleading the public about its true environmental impact! How can the County really hold Tackanok accountable for its water usage? Deny Project Baccara!”

“Project Baccara is a massive power plant that will threaten the health of Maricopa County’s elderly and child populations. More scrutiny and recent accurate site-specific data measurements are needed to know the full impact this will have on our county. With so many unanswered questions, deny Project Baccara!”

“Progress is only progress if it is rolled out safely. Building a massive unsustainable power plant with toxic emissions is not the way to update our power grid! We deserve the best technology available, and renewable power that won’t poison our communities! This project is a giant leap backwards. Deny Project Baccara!”

Senator Bernie Sanders and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez have announced federal legislation to put a national moratorium on data centers. This is huge news and a credit to the growing movement against water-guzzling, climate-wrecking, utility bill raising data centers across the country, including groups right here in Mississippi!
