Sri Vidya Dance School We offer instructions in the exquisite Kalakshetra style of Bharata Natyam training for all ages sta Akilaa Rao started learning dance by the age of 7.

Sri Vidya Dance School comes from the humble beginnings of Sri Vidya School of Music and Dance which was founded by Dr. Indira S Rao who established the School of Music and Dance in 1973 in Hyderabad, India. Under the tutelage and guidance of Guru Pasumarthy Ramalinga Sastry, Smt. By the age of 16, she completed her arangetram (Graduation) and performed in numerous ballets and All-India Dance comp

etitions in various cities in India. Subsequently, Akila was fortunate to continue learning variety of dance items from renowned Gurus including The Dhananjayans, The Charis and other experienced teachers from the Kalakshetra bani. In addition to learning dance, she also learnt Indian classical music from D. Seshachari, one of the famed Hyderabad Brothers. As Akila pursued her education in Architecture, she was able to continue dancing which shows that the love for art and architecture is a journey of life itself. During her brief stay in Malaysia, Akila was fortunate to perform at various programs with renowned dancer/choreographer Ajit Bhaskaran Das and his troupe. Over the years after moving to the US in 1998, Akila has taught and performed in many cities across the US. She has collaborated with numerous charitable organizations and performed for cultural events for fundraising and to spread the value of this great ancient art. Akila now lives in Cupertino, CA and continues to train and teach students of all ages. She has given multiple performances at Stanford University. With her students, she has given performances within the Bay Area and continues to encourage her students to learn and spread this wonderful art form.

✨ Bharatanatyam Workshop with Sri. Shijith Nambiar ✨

is delighted to host an immersive Bharatanatyam workshop with the eminent artist Sri. Shijith Nambiar at our studio in Sunnyvale, CA. This is a wonderful opportunity for dancers to learn, refine, and deepen their understanding of Bharatanatyam under the guidance of a highly respected performer and teacher.

The workshop will focus on Keerthanam and Padam, along with sessions on Adavus Intensive, Kriti Composition, discussions on Talam, and choreography ideation. Participants will gain valuable insights into technique, expression, rhythm, and creative process.

We warmly invite all Bharatanatyam students and dancers to take advantage of this unique opportunity to learn directly from Sri. Shijith Nambiar.

🎉 A Joyous Milestone – Hasika’s Arangetram 💃🌺

is filled with pride and gratitude as we celebrate the Arangetram of our dear student Hasika on February 28th, which also happens to be Smt Rukmini Devi Arundale 's birthday () which is truly a blessing.

From beginning her Bharatanatyam journey at a young age to standing confidently on the brink of her solo debut, Hasika has exemplified what it truly means to be devoted, dedicated, and disciplined in the pursuit of this sacred art. Her sincerity in practice, humility in learning, and perseverance through every challenge have proven time and again that she is ready to forge ahead in her dance journey — with the abundant blessings of her Guru, elders, and the unwavering support of her loving family.

On this sacred occasion of Maha Shivaratri, I am humbled and grateful to share that I, along with my students, will be presenting at 10:30 PM as part of the Shivaratri Akhanda Natyanjali at Sri Karpaga Ganapathi Temple, San Ramon.
It is truly special that Akhanda Natyanjali is being offered for the first time in the Bay Area — an all-night celebration of dance and devotion from 6:00 PM (Feb 15) to 6:00 AM (Feb 16).
With the blessings of the Almighty, my Gurus, and elders, we offer this Natyaarchane in devotion to Lord Shiva, alongside many respected Gurus and artists from our community.
