Located in north Sunnyvale, Lakewood School serves grades K-5. Our campus and school community provides a safe and caring learning environment. Mission
The mission of Lakewood School is to instill in our students high standards for academic achievement, integrity, leadership and responsible citizenship. Engagement
Parents are invited to participate in several monthly collaboration meetings: Prin
cipal’s Coffee, where we enjoy coffee, conversation, and community; ABC Reader training, a program where parents enter classrooms to lead discussions about character traits; ELAC, an organization for parents of English language learners; and PTA. Parent involvement in the classroom is another way families support student learning at Lakewood School. Welcome
When you walk on the Lakewood Elementary School campus, the first thing you see is the initial stage of our exciting renovation! This multifaceted update builds Lakewood’s capacity to outfit our students with the technological resources they need to excel in an increasingly complex and collaborative society. New classroom and school-wide spaces will be fully renovated and reopened fall, 2014. Lakewood’s staff works tirelessly to create innovative leaders. The recognition by the state of California as a “California Distinguished School” exemplifies our culture of rigor and success. As a distinguished school, Lakewood serves our student population by maintaining an environment of high expectations and targeted support. Lakewood staff and families work hand-in-hand to empower our students to learn today and lead tomorrow. In response to California’s adoption of the Common Core standards, Lakewood is continuously refining instruction of writing skills, critical thinking, and technology competency. The culmination of this work is highlighted within Lakewood’s AMMPE&D initiative (Academy of Mixed Media Productions, Engineering, and Design). We are excited to launch a technology-based approach to education, which will include the implementation of:
-Peer editing
-Student publications on: Book Creator, Google docs, Google slides, Weebly blogs, and iMovie
-Digital portfolios
-Online interactive learning
-Student-student online communication
Through the AMMPE&D project, we are committed to bridging the achievement and technology gap. We encourage our students to build strong writing and critical thinking skills through the exploration of community and technology. We are training our students to be effective online citizens who act with responsibility, humility, and respect. Students will become resilient and resourceful problem solvers. Our students value and help build community through their commitment to excellence and academic integrity. The Lakewood culture thrives by instilling positive character traits. Our school emphasizes the expectation that students are respectful, responsible, and safe citizens. We spend time learning about successful habits like perseverance, problem solving, and empathy. Using the Habits of Mind, students are given the tools and language to be successful. During our weekly Morning Pride announcement, students are recognized for showing those habits. Bring your lion pride!
