Last night SEE got together for a Winter Party. Here is to another year of working for equity for the students living in North Sunnyvale.
That word gets misused quite a bit, and we will continue to remind folks that when your “neighborhood” high school is more than 5 miles away, equity for these students doesn’t mean they get the same as everyone else, it means recognizing they have different needs and meeting students where they are at with adequate school transportation, adequate meal service (did you know there isn’t breakfast service before school and lunch isnt until 12:45-1:30pm- depending on the day?!), and better yet how about a High School closer to their neighborhood and we right the wrong that was closing Sunnyvale High School in 1981. There is a lot going on in our country right now, but our kids need us right now to show up for them. We are looking forward to more involvement with FUHSD and hope to .

Today was a busy day but a few of us made it to Patrick Ahrens’ Policy and Pancakes event, including Gail Rubino and Ambrosia Studley. We were so happy to see our friends with Support North Sunnyvale buttons asking Where’s The Food (WTF), advocating for protecting North Sunnyvale from becoming a food desert, as housing developments push out local businesses and independent grocers (learn more here: https://www.change.org/p/prioritize-community-needs-protect-north-sunnyvale-from-becoming-a-food-desert)

On this Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Day this sentiment rings true in our ears: “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”

Over this past year, systemic barriers to access, representation, and transparency have been exposed. They are deep-rooted and designed to serve whom they do. We were warned that, "even if you have a seat at the table, you might not be passed the food." Clearly we need more seats at the table or people that recognize that, although some are feasting, many remain without. We regularly remind ourselves that though the moral arc bends towards justice, we also need to collectively push and pull that arc towards justice. We'll SEE that we do. Educational justice awaits.

It is my privilege to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month by honoring Pat Carpio-Aguilar, Claudia Estrada, Paulina Zapata, and Renata Sanchez. They are examples of empowering our communities with civic engagement, education, and forging local leadership. This fosters job creation through entrepreneurship, higher-value industries, and efficient local governance.

The City of Sunnyvale is studying a future 5.5-mile East Channel Trail.
