My 10-year-old twins are on top of giant tires — one in a cowboy hat, the other in a gnome hat, both on stilts — talking away in their own little pretend world while a lamb chews leaves nearby. In the background, a little child swings beneath the trees and their 13-year-old brother plays basketball in the upper yard.

This is the beauty of mixed-age spaces. Older children still deeply immersed in imagination and play, younger children simply woven into the rhythm of it all.

There is so much happiness here.

PE at Infused Kinder Cottage looks a little different around here. We include our lamb named Mallow, a big brother sprinting behind, and my daughter leading the way… right up until she takes a funny little tumble mid-run.

We pause for a second, check in, and then it’s right back up again: ‘don’t die’… and they’re off for another lap like nothing happened.

This is childhood here—movement, laughter, animals, and learning that lives in real life, not just inside four walls.

My mornings begin simply—coffee on, water first, a few quiet moments of reflection before the day begins.

Then it’s outside.

Letting the chicks out of their coop, opening the chickens’ door, welcoming the sheep out of the barn. Filling water feeders, rinsing everything down, watering the garden. Today I brought watermelon for the chickens and chicks, sunflower seeds to scatter, fresh alfalfa and minerals for the sheep.

On our little micro urban farm, there is always so much to do. The work is constant, but it is deeply satisfying. In such a short amount of time, so much can be tended—animals cared for, gardens nourished, beauty restored.

The monarchs are everywhere. Our Certified Wildlife Habitat® is absolutely booming. Everything feels alive, vibrant, and so very beautiful.

As I walk back toward the main house—already ready to fall over—I can’t help but pause and look back at it all. And I think, this is what I get to do every day.

To spend time with my own children. To teach and experience these simple joys together. To welcome community children here for song, movement, and learning.

This little sanctuary is such a gift to me, and to everyone who walks through our gate.

Today, I think I’ll sit outside for a while and simply soak in the beauty.

summer is here.

At Infused Kinder Cottage, the earth is one of our greatest teachers.

Today the children worked together at the compost, carefully shoveling rich, living soil from the bottom and returning it to the chicken area as part of our ongoing cycle of care.

As they dug and lifted the soil, they discovered wriggling worms and broke into laughter and excitement, fully engaged in the wonder of what was moving beneath their hands.

There was curiosity, joy, and deep focus as they participated in real, meaningful work with the natural world around them.

Through Earth Art, the children are learning:

How living systems change over time and create healthy soil. How to work with their hands and contribute to real tasks. How to care for animals, soil, and the environment they live within. How they are part of the ongoing rhythm and cycle of the land.

They are learning that nothing is wasted. That time creates transformation.That the earth is always working.

Well… Alder lasted approximately 24 hours.

The children have officially renamed our newest little Babydoll lamb Frederick, and honestly… it fits him perfectly.

Frederick is still settling into life at the Cottage, quietly following Mallow everywhere, watching the children closely, and taking it all in with those sweet old-soul eyes. Meanwhile Mallow has become the brave little bouncing leader — running, leaping, and frolicking beside the children through the garden paths like a tiny storybook cloud.

Summer days at Infused Kinder Cottage are filling with muddy feet, warm breezes, smoothies shared outdoors, storytelling, creative play, animal tending, and gentle nature-based enrichment rooted in connection, rhythm, and wonder.

We are a small micro urban farm homestead and Waldorf-inspired parent-child enrichment community in Tujunga, offering mixed-age summer experiences for homeschooling families seeking a slower, more connected childhood rhythm.
