For little ones, saying goodbye can be hard—even when they’re entering a place filled with play, nature, and new friends.

There may be tears. There may be hesitation. And sometimes even a child who has been coming happily for a long time decides to test that goodbye again.

And then… play begins.

Little hands get busy. Friendships begin to form. The mud kitchen comes alive. And with time, consistency, and a gentle rhythm, a new place begins to feel familiar.

Transitions are part of early childhood. We don’t rush them—we give children the time and space to find their way.

Come learn alongside us at the Cottage.
Waldorf education • Multi-age learning • Homeschool enrichment

My eighth-grade son is in the middle of his Elizabethan History block, and today that learning found its way into our kitchen.

He made A Fricasie of Eggs with apples, cream, butter, sugar, nutmeg, and rosewater—which he also made himself from dried rose petals.

This is Waldorf education. History is not simply names, dates, and words on a page. It comes alive through the hands and the senses—through food, art, practical work, stories, and an understanding of how people actually lived.

And this is one of the beautiful things about our multi-age days at Infused Kinder Cottage. His eighth-grade lesson naturally became part of the younger children’s experience, too. They watched, helped, smelled, tasted, and learned alongside him, each at their own level.

For homeschool children looking for community and enrichment, and younger children who thrive through meaningful, hands-on learning, there is a place for you at our Cottage.

And just like that… the Cottage grows quiet.

After a full morning of movement, outdoor play, creativity, and time in nature, we close with one of the most beautiful parts of our rhythm — rest and sound.

Little bodies tucked beneath blankets, surrounded by soft bolsters, listening as the sound bowls fill the room. No screens. No overstimulation. No rushing from one activity to the next.

Just a few intentional moments for the nervous system to settle and for the morning’s experiences to gently sink in.

This is Infused Kinder Cottage — a Waldorf-inspired, nature-based enrichment program where movement, creativity, rhythm, and rest all have a place in the child’s day.

What Nobody Tells You About Preschool

Every parent hopes for an easy first day.

The truth is, childhood transitions are rarely that simple.

A child may walk in confidently one week and cry the next. They may cling to you after seeming completely settled. They may need time to find their rhythm in a new environment, with new people, and a new routine.

That doesn’t necessarily mean something is wrong.

Young children are learning that even when a parent leaves, they are still safe, cared for, and that the people they love always come back. As they grow, so does their awareness of the world around them. Their emotions become bigger, their understanding deepens, and their ability to express those feelings is still developing.

What they need most isn’t for every feeling to disappear. They need loving adults who remain calm, confident, and consistent.

With time, predictable rhythms and gentle reassurance, children begin to trust not only the environment, but also themselves.

Whether your family chooses a traditional preschool, a Cottage School, or a parent-child program, the goal isn’t to eliminate every tear. The goal is to help children move through each transition knowing they are safe, loved, and capable.

At Infused Kinder Cottage, we honor childhood at its own pace. Families may begin with our Monday and Friday Parent-Child Farm Experience or join our Tuesday through Thursday Cottage School program when the time is right.

Every good childhood has stories.

Some begin with a favorite book.

Others begin with a little lamb named Fable.

As Fable joins his sweet friend, Mallow, he’ll become much more than another friendly face around the cottage. He’ll become part of the children’s story.

At Infused Kinder Cottage, we believe the richest learning begins by living it.

The children won’t simply learn about fiber arts. They’ll care for the lambs, brush their wool, discover why different breeds produce different fibers, wash the wool, create beautiful plant dyes from the flowers and herbs they grow, spin it into yarn, and eventually create handwork from the very wool of the animals they’ve come to know and love.

That’s how we approach everything.

Each morning, children are immersed in the day’s theme through movement, nature, the farm, gardening, yoga, music, storytelling, imaginative play, and meaningful work. Our daily Soundbath offers a quiet moment for the morning’s experiences to settle before the afternoon unfolds.

Then, in our studio-style Arts Conservatory, they return to those same experiences through handwork, painting, culinary arts, music, movement, gardening, and other creative expressions. Rather than moving from one activity to the next, each part of the day builds upon the last, allowing children to deepen what they’ve experienced through their own hands, hearts, and imagination.

Today we explored circles and squares through movement, imagination, and play.

Using simple sticks and the earth beneath our feet, we drew a circle and a square in the dirt. Then we placed our little animal friends inside and outside the shapes and invited the children to jump into the circle, jump into the square, and move from one shape to the next.

What looked like simple play was actually rich early learning. The children were naturally developing:

• Shape recognition (circles and squares)
• Spatial awareness (inside, outside, around, between)
• Listening skills and following multi-step directions
• Gross motor coordination, balance, and body awareness
• Language development as we named and repeated each concept
• Imagination, creativity, and problem-solving through open-ended play

There were no worksheets or flashcards—just children experiencing early math with their whole bodies.

This is how we introduce academic concepts at Infused Kinder Cottage. Before children are asked to recognize a shape on paper, they first see it, build it, move through it, jump into it, and experience it. When learning begins with the body, it becomes joyful, meaningful, and lasting.

Movement isn’t a break from learning—it is where learning begins.

One of my favorite gifts of a mixed-age learning environment. The older children naturally become teachers, mentors, and leaders, while the younger ones watch with wonder, eager to learn from someone just a little further along the path. As confidence grows in one child, curiosity blossoms in another. These quiet, unplanned moments are where some of the most meaningful learning happens.

I’m opening a few enrollment opportunities for both summer and the 2026–2027 school year beginning in mid-August. Our year-round, Waldorf-inspired enrichment program offers a different theme each day, magical play gardens, sweet lambs, baby chicks, nurturing care, and thoughtfully prepared indoor and outdoor spaces where children can breathe, explore, create, and belong.
