Teaching a child to navigate their feelings is just as vital as teaching them to walk or talk. When we give children the tools to understand their inner world, we aren't just managing "behavior", we are building a lifetime of resilience.

Whether your family is part of Bumble Bee, Brilliant Bees, or NM Children First, our shared goal is to ensure every child feels seen and understood.

You can start this journey at home with three simple steps:

🙂 Identify: Help them notice what is happening in their body. "I see your fists are clenched and your face is red."

🗣 Name it: Give the feeling a label to strip away its overwhelming power. "It looks like you are feeling frustrated because that block fell."

🤍 Validate: Let them know it’s okay to feel that way. "It makes sense that you’re sad we have to leave the park. I’ve felt that way too."

When children understand their emotions, they no longer have to fear them. This clarity allows them to grow up feeling secure, capable of handling challenges, and equipped to build healthy relationships.

Try asking open-ended questions like:
