It’s time for our annual Fall Fundraiser! You can support the Big Walnut - DACC FFA chapter and our students by purchasing delicious Florida Farm Bureau Fruit & Nuts.

You can order the fruit and nuts using the link in the caption. If you prefer, just contact any FFA student or advisor to order in person. The top 3 salesmen will earn an incentive including a paid trip to State Convention and a gift card to shopffa.org.

The sale runs until November 16th! The fruit and nuts will be delivered the week of December 7th. Every purchase goes directly toward supporting our students, their competitions, and chapter activities.

For those who would like to support but do not wish to purchase fruit or nuts, please see our attached sponsorship letter. We have had sponsors for specific competition teams, for students to attend FFA camp, and for students to have funding for trips and special events. Any amount is appreciated and will go directly to the students.

We were thrilled to welcome Ohio FFA State Vice President At Large, Jackson DeWitt, to Big Walnut today to lead inspiring workshops for our middle and high school students.

From tackling fears and stepping out of comfort zones to learning the power of working with a mentor to reach our goals, our members gained so much valuable insight. Thank you, Jackson, for taking the time to pour into our students—we can’t wait to see you down the road at future FFA events! 💙💛

Our business management students recently put their inventory knowledge to the test. After exploring different inventory systems and learning how businesses tailor them to their products, students stepped into the role of a florist.

Their mission? Calculate the exact inventory needed to fulfill a custom floral order just in time for homecoming season!

Once the math was done, Mrs. Febes brought the inventory to life, and students got to assemble the bud vases they successfully “sold” earlier in the week. Hands-on projects like this build real-world career skills that students can take straight to the Floriculture CDE this spring!

Our food processing students built Chipotle-style bowls and learned how restaurants keep food safe and fresh! 🌯

They prepped fresh toppings before handling raw chicken to prevent cross contamination, started the rice first since it takes longest, and cooked the chicken last to a safe internal temperature. Hot foods stayed hot, cold foods stayed cold, and everything stayed out of the temperature danger zone. 🌡️

What makes the perfect grilled cheese? Our students ran the experiment to find out!

They tested several cooking methods, comparing different fats, heat levels, and cook times to see how each one changed color, texture, and flavor. Along the way they learned about the Maillard reaction, the chemical reaction between amino acids and sugars that creates that golden brown crust and rich toasted flavor.

Our Soils teams competed in the Soils CDE, and we could not be prouder of how they did! 🌱 Students climbed into soil pits to evaluate texture, slope, drainage, and erosion, then selected the best management practices for each site in both the Agricultural and Urban divisions.

This group put in the time at after-school practices, and it showed. Great work, team! 🙌

That’s a wrap on Greenhand Camp 2026! ⛺ 6 of our first-year members spent the weekend at FFA Camp Muskingum learning about the FFA organization, building leadership skills with the Ohio FFA state officers, and meeting members from chapters across Ohio.

Between leadership workshops, canoeing, kayaking, the ropes course, and shooting sports, these Greenhands came home with new friends and a head start on their FFA journey.

Our Exploratory Agriculture students have been loving the plant science unit and fully embraced getting their hands dirty by propagating their very own plants. A huge thank you to the middle school office for letting us borrow their gorgeous, lengthy pothos to clip from!

The journey started when each student took their own cutting and placed it safely in water for two weeks to grow roots before successfully transferring them into soil. Now, students will check on their plants weekly, practice hands-on plant care, and watch them thrive.
