🌿 Volunteer Day at the Park — We Need Your Help!

Are you part of a local scout troop or need some community service hours? Join us!

Join SWEEP for our next Volunteer Day at the Park on Saturday, September 19, beginning at 9 AM.

We’ll be tackling several projects throughout the morning, including:

🪏Trail maintenance and repairs,
🌳Clearing overgrowth and cut brush,
👷Mix & pour concrete foundations for new benches,
🚽Cleaning the public restrooms, and
🛠️Putting together metal shelving for storage.

Whether you can lend a hand for the whole morning or just part of it, we’d be glad to have you. No special skills are necessary—just come ready to pitch in and help care for a place our community can enjoy.

Heavy lifting required for some of the activities.

Pennsylvania’s School Bus Stopping Law requires drivers to stop at least 10 feet from a school bus when its red lights are flashing and stop arm is extended.

Drivers must remain stopped until the red lights stop flashing, the stop arm is withdrawn, and the children have reached a place of safety.

For a police-observed violation, penalties can include a $250 fine, five points on your driving record, and a 60-day license suspension. Automated stop-arm camera violations are handled differently and can result in a $300 civil fine.

With students returning to school, this is an important reminder: slow down, stay alert, and NEVER pass a stopped school bus with its red lights flashing. A few extra seconds of patience can protect a child’s life.

🌿 Exciting News! 🌿

The first of four educational signs has officially been installed at the Sunbury Wetland Ecological Educational Park!

These interpretive signs will help visitors learn about the park’s history, wetlands, wildlife, and the importance of protecting this special place.

This project was made possible through a generous 2021 grant from the Sunbury Rotary Club. We waited until all major construction and inspections were complete before installing them, and we’re excited to finally start sharing them with you!

Be sure to stop by, check out the first sign, and watch for the remaining to be installed soon.

A huge thank you to the Rotary Club of Sunbury, Pennsylvania for helping make this educational project a reality! 🌿💚
