Today, our Horizon community came together to honor and remember Sam, on what would have been his birthday. Students and staff wore blue and tie-dye—some of Sam’s favorites—to keep his memory alive in our halls.

We miss you, Sam, and you will always be part of our family.

This morning, Horizon gathered for a flag-raising ceremony to recognize and honor the land on which we learn as the ancestral homeland of the Ho-Chunk Nation.

We were privileged to welcome staff, students, families, and community members with Indigenous connections who shared inspiring and meaningful messages. We extend our sincere gratitude to all the leaders and partners who helped make this event possible.

Today, 1st-grade students in Ms. Ellie's class had fun drawing monsters NOT taking care of their books in Mrs. Pittelli's library class!

Our third graders just wrapped up reading Juana and Lucas, a wonderful story set in Colombia about a young girl navigating the challenges of learning English. To bring the book off the page, we had a very special guest speaker: a Madison College student who is also from Colombia!
Ahead of the visit, our kids wrote down questions to help her prepare. She used their curiosity to create an incredible presentation comparing her own life journey to Juana's, teaching the class some Spanish, and sharing the rich culture of Colombia.
Seeing the kids connect what they read in class to a real-world story was pure magic. A huge thank you to our guest speaker, Diana, for making learning so meaningful and to our own Carolyn Miller, for setting this up!

We selected 4 teachers’ classroom wish lists and were able to purchase items they needed for their students and classrooms. 📚✏️❤️
