From the leadership team at the K-Isan Institute:

In this 2023 season of gratitude and joy, we want to take a moment and express our deepest appreciation

- to those who serve and protect us all, at home and abroad
- to all first responders, who help us in times of need
- to their loved ones, who support them every day

- and to our instructors and students, who have supported us so unstintingly over the years

Please have a safe and happy holiday season!

Here at the K-Isan Institute, we want to share our hopes that everyone had a happy and enjoyable Thanksgiving holiday.

We especially want to send our thanks to those of you who are on duty during this festive time, whether serving overseas or protecting your communities here at home. You are standing tall so that others can be at home safe and sound to celebrate with family and friends.

We also send our best to the families and friends of those serving away from home. We share your sadness at being apart from your loved ones.

Finally, for those who have lost loved ones in the line of duty, we offer our deepest condolences for your loss and our gratitude for their service.

ON VETERANS DAY

Here at the K-Isan Institute, we want to extend our sincerest appreciation for all those who serve or have served in our military, at home and abroad, including Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, and National Guard. You have stood tall so that others can be at home safe and sound to celebrate with family and friends.

We especially want to honor those who have been wounded and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of our country. You serve as a constant reminder that freedom is never free - it comes at a price that you were all willing to pay.

We salute you.

We here at the K-Isan Institute want to wish everyone a happy and safe Fourth of July!

As we all know, "freedom isn't free" - it is earned and paid for, over and over, by those who sacrifice to preserve it for all. Let us give thanks for their courage and spirit of service.

We offer special thanks to those of you who are on duty - both military and law enforcement - during this time, whether serving overseas or protecting your communities here at home. We hope that you too can soon be at home to celebrate in person with family and friends, and we sincerely thank you for your service.

As we look back on another Memorial Day, we at the K-Isan Institute once again marvel at the courage and commitment of those who serve, both here and abroad, across all branches of the military.

We are continually humbled by and grateful to those who gave the last full measure of devotion in their fight to preserve our people, our land, and our way of life.

We weep for those loved ones, families and friends who feel the loss of those heroes so deeply.

At the same time, we pray that those individuals fighting tyranny and oppression in other countries - those who sacrifice their lives for their countrymen and country women every day - can gain a victorious peace so they, too, can once again pursue "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness."

Happy Holidays to everyone,

It has been a good year for the K-Isan Institute. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support for - and dedication to - the Koga Method. Mr. Koga would be honored to know that his lifelong passion for Law Enforcement training, and his efforts to share that training worldwide, are thriving and very applicable in this new day and age of Law Enforcement.

Here are some of the year’s highlights and challenges:
--We have had the opportunity to assist certain LE agencies regarding litigation (i.e., documentation, depositions, and information) to help with Use of Force Issues internally and externally.
--We have added a new sponsor and location to next year’s schedule. Controlled Responses Institute, a P.O.S.T certified company, will be holding classes at their new facility located in Bakersfield, California. I am looking forward to working with them to sponsor more K-Isan Institute classes.
--The website remains a work in progress. My goal is to have a new website up and running by March of 2023. In the meantime, you can continue to access the current website (Kisaninstitute.com or Kogainstitute.com) and get the 2023 schedule and fliers for the upcoming classes. I’m looking for some good bodycam videos of successful uses of force utilizing the Koga Method. Also, I’m trying to gather any testimonials of how the Koga system has helped or influenced you on the streets. These can be written by you or you can call me and tell me your story and I will put it on paper.
--We are having a baton supplier issue. The manufacturer of the laminated wood has closed business and we are in the process of finding a new one whose products meet the specs of a good police baton. I have a supply of batons that I hope will carry me through till we find a new company. I do not have any Kogawood 42-inch Riot Batons, only standard hickory ones.
--Lastly, due to rising operating costs, it is necessary to raise our Koga Method Training course prices for the first time in over ten years. I appreciate your understanding.
If you have a question or need more information, please don’t hesitate to call me.
Please be safe and strive to be the best you can be. “NO GIVE UP”

Sincerely,
Robert Mendiola

The Institute is FAMOUS (well, sort of) -

We wanted to let you know about a terrific news article about the Institute and about Robert Mendiola. It's titled "Local Law Enforcement Learns Self Defense Methods" and it covers the course Bobby recently taught in Cleveland, Texas. It appeared in "The Vindicator" news publication (link to article is below). Here's the opening:

'CLEVELAND (Texas) - In recent years, attention on law enforcement and how they execute their roles has been under the microscope, and now proper police training is all the more critical.
Last week law enforcement officers from departments across Liberty County embarked on the Cleveland Civic Center for a specialized self-defense training course.
“What we are teaching them is self- defense and defensive tactics. How to protect themselves against attacks, whether its punches, pushes and how to use multiple officers to control a combative subject to take them to the ground, control them and get them handcuffed basically,” said course instructor Robert Mendiola.'
