On Wednesday, our talented cast of MTI's Broadway Junior R***e: Pure Imagination took an exciting step in their performance journey with a tour of Patriot Hall, Sumter County, where they will perform on June 17th!
Youth had the opportunity to go behind the scenes, learn about the theater space, and begin experiencing what it takes to bring a production to life on a professional stage. The cast also started their first "stumble through" rehearsal, putting together the songs, scenes, and choreography they've been working on throughout camp.
A special thank you to David Geter, who generously shared his expertise with our young performers. From introducing stage technology to helping test sound and lighting, David gave youth an incredible hands-on learning experience that deepened their understanding of technical theater and live performance.
We are grateful for the outstanding collaboration between Sumter County Clemson Extension 4H and Patriot Hall, Sumter County, creating opportunities for youth to explore the performing arts in a professional setting.
The excitement is building, and we can't wait to see these young performers shine on stage next week! ππΆ

This week, members of the Crosswell Home for Children Club enjoyed an unforgettable learning experience exploring the beautiful gardens Swan Lake Iris Gardens
Youth participated in guided tours of the Butterfly Garden, Chocolate Garden, and Sensory Garden, by Sumter Master Gardeners where they learned about pollinators, edible plants, gardening techniques, and how our senses connect us to the natural world. From smelling fragrant herbs and flowers to discovering plants used in chocolate production, every stop offered a new opportunity to learn through hands-on exploration.
A heartfelt thank you to our Sybil Lee for helping to coordinate the tour guides who shared their knowledge, passion, and time with our youth. Your dedication to horticulture education helps inspire the next generation of gardeners and environmental stewards.
We would also like to thank Sumter County Clemson Extension for coordinating these engaging garden experiences and supporting youth learning throughout the week.
And a special thank you to Chick-fil-A generously providing meals for our participants. Your support helped keep our young learners fueled for a day of exploration and discovery!
At South Carolina 4-H Youth Development, we believe the best learning happens by doing, and this week was filled with curiosity, hands-on learning, and plenty of fun in the garden! π±π

π±π§βπΎ Shiloh Lift Project 4-H Club Launches Youth-Led Garden! π₯πΆοΈπ
This summer, members of the Club put their leadership and teamwork skills into action by planning and installing their very own youth-led garden!
Before planting, youth conducted a facility and land assessment using Clemson Extension School & Community Gardening planning checklist to determine the best location for their raised beds. They evaluated sunlight, accessibility, water access, and available space to make informed decisions about their garden site.
The club also practiced civic engagement and leadership by using parliamentary procedures to discuss and vote on which warm-season crops to grow. After reviewing four vegetable options, members selected sweet potatoes, peppers, and cucumbers for their garden.
A special thank you to Sumter County Clemson Extension Consumer Horticulture Agent, Bradley Secraw for providing sweet potato transplants and sharing his expertise to support this project.
We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to Ms. D.N. Edwards, Rene Harris, and the dedicated staff of the Shiloh Lift Project for their partnership, encouragement, and commitment to creating meaningful opportunities for youth. Your support helps make hands-on learning experiences like this possible!
Through this project, youth are developing skills in agriculture, leadership, teamwork, decision-making, and environmental stewardship while growing fresh produce for their community.
We can't wait to watch their garden grow throughout the summer! π±π
