🌿🦅 FUN FACT FRIDAY | Wildlife habitat Educational (WHEP) Summer Session Spotlight! 🦅🌿
Our WHEP Summer Session Wilson Hall youth enjoyed a special Revolutionary Hike at Poinsett State Park, led by Park Ranger Mark Owens!
Along the trail, youth explored the park’s history, wildlife, and natural resources while putting their outdoor knowledge into action. We were also joined by a special guest who shared her knowledge of birds and birding, adding another exciting layer to the adventure. 🐦🌳
🏅 Achievement Unlocked!
Our youth successfully completed the requirements for their Level 1 Park Ranger badges, which were presented during the session. Congratulations to our young park rangers! 👏🏾
💡 Fun Fact Friday: Poinsett State Park is 1 of 16 South Carolina State Parks built by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC)—giving our youth an opportunity to experience history, conservation, and nature all in one place.
A huge thank you to Ranger Mark Owens and the Poinsett State Park team for creating such a memorable hands-on learning experience!

Selecting and evaluating a bit can be challenging given the wide range of options available. This webinar explores the fundamentals of bit fit and function, including how different cheekpieces and mouthpieces influence pressure and communication between horse and rider. Participants will learn about snaffle and curb bits, leverage, ports, bit materials, and bitless options while examining common myths and misconceptions surrounding bit use. The program will also discuss factors to consider when selecting a bit based on the needs of the individual horse, rider, and discipline, providing practical information to support equine welfare and effective communication.

Throwback Thursday! 🐞🌿
We’re throwing it back to a fun summer highlight, our “Let’s Build a Bug Hotel” project with Sumter Master Gardeners Cynthia (Cindy) Clark!
Cindy constructed and generously donated the bug hotel boxes while sharing her knowledge of bugs and their importance with our young learners.
During the two-day project, youth painted and decorated their bug hotels before filling them with natural materials such as pine straw, hay, pine cones, and sticks. The finished hotels were then hung outdoors to create cozy spaces for beneficial bugs to visit and call home. 🐝🦋🐞
A special thank-you to Cindy for helping make this hands-on learning experience possible!

Thank you to our the volunteers, club leads and collaborators who attended the Sumter County Clemson Extension 4-H 🍀Advisory Board Meeting today! We made connections, learned about South Carolina 4-H Youth Development Framework and looked at the way forward to unite our common efforts to support youth in Sumter County succeed in work and life! 🍀

McElveen Library "Plant a Seed" Summer Reading Program has come to a wonderful close! Congratulations to our Seed in a Bag Project winner, Penelope, who documented her sunflower's growth from seed to sprout.
Throughout the summer, military-connected youth enjoyed hands-on Garden STEM activities, from exploring the important role of worms to learning how to draw and identify the parts of a plant. 🌱🪱🎨
Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make the "Plant a Seed" Garden STEM 🌿program a fun, educational, and memorable summer experience. We loved growing, learning, and discovering together!
